  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

82 WR430 HELP with motor split/shifter not shifting..

Skidmark

Husqvarna
B Class
Aloha, At the races last weekend, my shifter decided not to and would prefer to rotate around in circles, sticking me in 3rd gear. Unfortunately, it did not simply disengage from it's locating slot...as I was hoping it did. I assume I'm going to have to split the cases to get into the shifting mechanism itself.

I cannot (for whatever reason) locate a service manual for 82 models. If someone has one they want to sell/share/?? with me I'd be very happy. Or... if it's a simple job, please let me know of any special things to look out for like left handed threads etc (I think the magneto is "lefty-tighty, righty-loosey) right? Anything else?

Mahalo,
Kelly

Probably lost the bolt or pin in the link arm that "ratchets" the shifter drum. Pull the clutch cover off and it should be fairly obvious. I think there is a online manual on this forum under tech reference?

I pulled the cover at the track and didn't see anything "obvious" though that sounds like what it might be as I can manually operate the horizontal arm that shifts the gears...I got it from 3rd to neutral manually. No manuals for 82 that I can find. Anyone got a link for me?
Mahalo,
Skiddy

Thaks guys for the tech ref assistance. Apparently, the male slotted shaft has come loose on the arm. There appears to be a brass sleeve? that friction fits the shaft to the arm? Can I just spot weld the two together??

Skidmark,
My 430 did the same thing, except mine was worn out on the part that contacts to the shift drum. Check yours for wear there too. Luckly that assembly been used on Husky for years up into the 90's, so it was still available from Halls cycle in ILL. Here's the page in the assembly manual showing
this part.

Husky T--- i've the 83 engine assembly manual in a tif, if that helps

That brass you see is a brazement of the two being welded together, relocate, weld it up and should be good as new.

Steve,

I would really like to get that added to the tech ref section... any chance of making a copy of it and mailing it to me...? I can then scan and upload as a pdf....

Thanks, T

I can. I'm swamped with school right now, start of the term is hectic. PM me your contact info. I also have a factory workshop manual for ML/MK

I have three manuals in PDF for early 80's aircooled husky engines, and all three are slightly different. They are 7.8, 3.7, 3.2MB files. If someone wants to PM me with e-mail addresses, would be happy to send
