    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

76 250WR exhaust question

My 76 250 WR is currently undergoing restoration. Prior to tearing the whole bike down I noticed it always had blowby and drool at the manifold. A peek inside revealed a ton of carbon buildup. I'm surprised it ever even ran.

I tried to get the skyway spark arrestor out the end of the pipe but no luck. So I cut the skyway can off at the weld and was able to get it out that way. I've got a replacement spark arrestor. I also found another piece inside the pipe that looks like a diverter or maybe to create back pressure. Not sure.

I don't see this part on the parts list. What's it called? Was it originally welded to the husky end of the pipe and the skyway tube went over it?

I've seen large amounts of carbon build up inside the combustion chamber on bikes that had a leaking left hand main seal. A failed center case gasket will do the same. The trans oil finds its way into the combustion chamber this way. Not saying that's the case here, this just may be a rich 2-stroke oil mix condition. A leak down test will provide you with whether or not you need to split the cases in search of a seal leak or center case gasket failure.

The spark arrestor can is the same that's used in the Cobra Sparky spark arrestor. You can find cheap used ones on Ebay that clean up well in a blast cabinet or sometimes a new one thats listed at a low price. I'm not absolutely positive if welding is needed, I think the spark arrestor just slides inside the stock Husky silencer tube.
 
Thanks Crash. I had the whole engine gone through by Halls and had seals and gaskets replaced. I haven't run it much since so I feel sure the carbon was from previous owner. But I'll keep it in mind if it continues.

So what is the part to the right of the spark arrestor in the last picture? I just ordered a cobra replacement off eBay.
