  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

72 250 Cr Chain?

Area51

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hey guys, I just picked up a nice "barn find" bike that had been in storage for the last 30 years... it is complete excepting for the chain. the parts manual calls for a 5/8 x 1/4 chain which seems to translate to a 520 chain. I tried one I ordered for another bike and it seems to fit the rear sprocket just fine but it is too wide to make it through the roller / guide block. do I need something special for this bike? I don't really want to hack it up if I don't have to.

If you ordered a ring type chain (O ring or X ring) they are too wide. I learned the expensive way too. Have a nice X ring chain waiting for a new project. Just get a good non o ring chain and it will work fine.

ok thanks.. I did find a narrow x-ring chain from DID that sounds like it will work. All except the price! yow!

Try this guy's Ebay store. You likely need a non O ring 520 X however many links chain. For example 520 X 110. I ordered a heavy-duty version for my '72 WR 450. Haven't ridden on it much, but it seems to work fine and cost about 30 bucks.

John LeFevre at http://vintagehusqvarna.com/ also should have the right chain if you don't want to mess around. His parts prices - including for chains - are very reasonable and he can tell you exactly what you need.

Make sure you order a few more links than you need. Also, you may well know this (I didn't, so will share), you can cut the chain down to size with a grinding wheel to remove the nub at the end of a link and a punch to knock it out. When searching for chain, one store told me I needed an expensive tool to do the job, but this isn't the case.

Good luck with your barn find!

Thanks! I ordered a standard 520 chain today with 120 links. I'll cut it to fit and then we'll see how bad the piston is frozen. I can't wait to go though the gears on this awesome machine!!
