• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

630, want higher bars, got questions

I'd like to raise my bars some, most likely by using a taller set of lower clamps.

Currently, I have a 1 3/4" lower clamp from Highway Dirt Bikes.

The medium option is 2 1/8" tall.

The tall option is 2 1/2" tall.

They will also custom make any size I want for an extra $5.

I have zero experience raising bars on a bike. I think 2 1/2" would be the way to go as far as how much taller I should go. That's a 3/4" taller set of bars.

Cable reach concerns me. I don't want to ghetto reroute my cables to make them work. I'd prefer using the standard cable routing. Will the stock cables work?

Are their longer cable kits you can buy?

Standing on the pegs all hunched over to reach the bars doesn't make for a very controllable ride. :D

I'm only 5' 10". Not a giant man by any means, but a taller bar position would do me some good, I think.

My friend Dustin runs the medium option from Highway Dirt Bikes and if memory serves me correctly no re-routing was necessary. I'll try and did up some photos when I get home tonight.

Edit.. sorry no photo available, however I'm sure HDB might be able to provide a good indication as to whether cable re-routing is necessary.

I installed a 1-3/4" Rox riser and I didn't need to monkey with cables at all but very very tight for the clutch cable. I think even going up only another 1/4" to 2" would be a problem for that cable unless you re-routed it. All other cables/wires seem to have a little more room to stretch.
Now you only need to measure stock rise and then subtract from HDB clamp height to determine your maximum (knowing 1-3/4" over stock is limit). I'm just a CH over 6' tall and the 1-3/4" risers are perfect height for me.

Edit: just realized that my abbreviation used is the same for Cafe Husky. haha

Not sure about the 630, but the 610 will take the 2" Rox riser no trouble. I however had a new motion pro clutch cable that's 2" longer than OEM, so not sure if stock will work. I would make sure the riser you get can move forward also. If you just go up and not forward the bars are a bit back at you. I wish I could post a pic with my ph, but I can't seem to do it.

I've had the 2-1/2" Rox Risers on the bike with ProTaper FMX/Pastrani bars. The enrichment cable was a bit short but the rest was OK with a bit of fiddling.
Also have the 510 spacers under the stock bar mounts. I've since taken the Rox's off; cornering felt way too bizarre.

Hi J,

It's smart to be concerned about cable reach. Here's a link to risers in assorted sizes... http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/4935/217/

Something different from Rox...

YMMV...JfJ

Does anyone know the rise and sweep dimensions of the stock handlebars ( or the name of the bend)? I have bent my bars beyond being able to measure them. Thank you.

Stock bars on my 630:

Magura X-line - SX Black Edition

width: 808mm = 31.81”
height: 120mm = 4.72” (edge to edge)
pullback: 63mm = 2.48” (edge to edge)

Just remember using a fixed riser or changing bars only locks in your limits of adjustability. Rox Risers are great because they give you an extra pivot separate from the bar clamp pivot allowing almost limitless possibilities.

The only downside I've found with the Rox Risers is that each riser is completely independent - as most are - and this tends to mangle the upper bar mount during a fall.
That said, I've mangled the upper bar mount with the stock setup as well. What I'd really like to see is a one-piece design where the two stalks are strongly coupled together so that during a fall the entire riser unit rotates as a single unit.

that's why I always prefer to run taller bars and keep the load off the bar mounts if possible.

Good point, I had never thought of that. Although the dual sport low rise RR's already have threads tapped on each side meant for attaching GPS, outlet, etc. Instead you could easily use the threaded holes for attached a strong brace.
