    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

630 SMS Oil Level Question

If you check your oil level right after a ride with the bike on the side stand, is the oil visible in the little window?

Yesterday I noticed small traces of oil had leaked out from the seal at the oil filter cartridge cover on the right side of the engine. So my first thought was to see if there was still enough oil. The bike was on its side stand, I glanced at the window and saw oil about 1/4 of the way up the window so I figured at least I wasn't running dry.

However I then looked at the reservoir for coolant and noticed it was empty! Of course the bike was too hot for me to open the radiator cap to see if there was coolant in the radiator.

I see residue where coolant has overflowed from the reservoir and evaporated on the engine case. I'm hoping it has all been overflow and not that I have a gasket leak or something like that that is causing the coolant to mix with the oil.

That is why I am wondering if it is normal for the oil level to be that high when the bike is on the side stand after a ride.

I wish I could open the radiator cap to check the coolant level and look at the oil to see if it is milkey but I didn't think of these things until after I got to work :(
 
Mine is ~1/8th of the way up the window on the sidestand. What is the level if you put the bike upright and leave it there for a good 30 seconds? Should be about halfway up the window.

As for the coolant, mine does the same thing, I think they run a little hot sitting in traffic and any steam that vents off (into the bottom of the catch tank) can bubble the coolant around enough to dribble out the side cap. I think the cap should have been located higher to prevent this.
 
Took it to the dealer.

They took a look at it; the radiator was still full so everything was okay. They tightened up the cover for the oil filter cartridge. They refilled the coolant reservoir.

Whew!
