• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

630 melting wires by headers

My SMS630 has melted the insulation off the wiring that runs down the front frame tube between the headers. I don't know if it made a difference but I'm running the full TI exhaust. I first noticed burning rubber smell and saw that the plastic tie holding the wiring harnes to the front down tube had melted off and the sheath around the wiring is melted.

Has anyone had this happen and if so what did you do to keep it from happening again?

Sounds like you might be running lean, these bikes get the hottest sitting at idle for extended periods, some will even get the primaries glowing. Got a picture? You can get insulating harness sleeve/wrap to protect it, but I would also look for the cause and not just the symptom.

That problem has been noted prior to the Ti exhaust swap, a little rerouting and foil heat tape will do the trick.

The previous owner of my bike had the same problem. He just re-wrapped with tape and moved the wires to the front of the tube, away from the headers. I'm trying to find some heat insulation tape locally to make it better. On my bike, just the plastic outside part melted, not the wires. Husky provided an entirely new harness to replace the melted one, but I would have to take my bike from Houston to Atlanta to get it replacaed! Husky warranty work is difficult in some respects.

Thanks for the replies! Guess I'll hit the auto parts store and see what they have as far as heat reflective tape or covering.
