• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

630 Instrument Display is shot ...

Husqvarna
Pro Class
Been having a lot of rain lately and the display began erratically showing only fractured numbers yesterday. Thought it might dry out in the the sun. But now the display has completely gone. Connectors? Could it dry out in time? Does this happen with other bikes? I never really liked a digital display ... never trusted them. Suppose I´ll need a whole new instrument (bet it´s expensive).

Could probably get a Trailtech Vapor cheaper than a new Husky display...

And if you find a used Husky dash, make sure it's from a SMS since you've got an SMS, otherwise the speedo will be way off, and you'll have no way to correct it.

Jesse (Jtemple) will likely chime in or you can do a search of his threads- he had this issue. RDTCU is right on- it matters which version you get. If I recall correctly it's actually the same unit, but you only get one shot at programming it right.

Me- I've taken the low road. Rather than find out if mine is leak/seepage prone I cover it w/ saran wrap if there's a chance of rain. I lay it flat across the front/top, place a rubber band around the sides, then roll the rubber band down until it snaps tight around the underside. Makes for a tight fit and one wouldn't realize it's there unless they look closely.

I've been rained on lots, and left it parked out in a thunderstorm at work a few times, never so much as condensation under the glass...

Had the same problem when my sm was new and had ridden in heavy rain.
Eventually the display went AWOL on me.

To solve it iI disconnected the display unit from the electrics for 72+ (seventy two plus) hours.
hooked it back up to the electrics after that and it has been fine ever since

If that works, count your blessings and seal it up with some silicone.

Mine was under warranty, luckily.

My display just started with the condensation issue, display does still function, should be still under warranty if I could find a Husky dealer in Canada:banghead: the response I got was call back in a month since my purchasing dealer hasn't been paid for warranty for a while.

I had condensation inside mine from day 1. Hall's said it should dry up on its own. It seemed to, but every time I got wet, it would come back. Eventually it wrecked the display. Hall's shipped me a new one, free of charge.

Neither the dealer nor I knew any better, so I plugged it in and let it initialize. I instantly found out a few things:

My odometer/hours were reset to 0. I was kind of hoping the display read those values from the ECU, but I guess not.

My speedo/odometer/tripmeter were way off.

Hall's wasn't sure what the deal was, so they contacted Husky. Husky informed them that when the display initializes, you get one chance to select TE or SM mode. If you do nothing, it appears that it defaults to SM. That's why mine was so far off. The mode cannot be changed once the display is initialized.

Hall's then got another display, set it up for a TE in their shop, and sent it to me. Again, free of charge. They offered to take the SM display back, but I asked them what it would cost me to keep it. I was thinking that I might do a SM conversion and put it to use (which I never did). I was given the SM calibrated display for $100.

I didn't get my new, correctly calibrated display until after I made a > 2500 mile trip on my bike. So, both my SM display and my TE display are both way off. I now maintain a page on my vehicle maintenance spreadsheet that I can plug in what my new displays read for miles and hours and it calculates what the actual mileage of the bike is.

Both new displays I have on hand have been put through the ringer. Both have remained water tight.

Jt, thanks. That was a great help. I looked up the price of a new unit ... 300€€**************************************** A new Trailtech would have been a bit cheaper. But I didn´t fancy having to re-wire to fit a different plug (I´ll ask them if their unit comes with the same plug, but doubt it). Went off to work today and even the indicator lights, neutral etc. were off. Thought it might be a fuse but all the other things on the same fuse were working ok. So I took the display off the bike and used a hair dryer on the two plug ends and then used contact spray.

So now the indicator lights are working again and most of the digital display. Think the rest might come back if I keep it dry.

I came off the bike a few times and might have cracked the display housing, letting the water in. Do you want to sell your SM display??????

I really don't have much use for it. The bike will not likely see an SM conversion. I'll buy a second street bike before I do that. Shipping might be spendy, though.

Keep in mind I rode with that SM display for a while. So it's got some miles/hours on it.

Well, it´s b*ggered. This morning the display was gone again, and now I´ve only got the small indicator lights dimly working. PM´ed you.

I am fitting a Trailtech Vapour Stealth, so that I can switch between 17 and 21" wheels.
It seems like a good bit of gear.

Does anyone know which wires do what in the 630 dash plug?
The Trailtech has it's own speed, tach, and temp sensors, I can fins the power, high beam, and blinkers, but the neutral and low fuel lights are proving a little elusive. There are a few wires coming from the ECU, but I cant sort out which is which.

I mailed Trailtech to ask whether they made one with a plug to fit the 630. But no answer, so assume they don´t. I must have cracked the housing on my display. It´s waterlogged. The worst parts is the missing low fuel light. Had to push the bike a few miles over the weekend when I ran out. Jt very kindly sold me his surplus SM unit. My parts dealer informed that Husky has a printed info warning that new units are set to SM mode and, once installed, cannot be re-programmed to TE.
