  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

5'7" 30" Inseam On A Wr300

I'm wondering if any one has any advice on starting the WR300 on the trail. This is my first trail bike. I've ridden other dirt bikes before, but this is the first I've ever owned. I can start the bike fine if I can use the kick stand, but thats not always and option on trails.

A friend took a look at the jets and they seemed spot on with whats suggested. Besides a new carb, are there any other reasonable options. I understand a lowering link will likely not do what I want. I've wondered if shaving the seat would help? The bike is a 2011.

Thanks

Don't use your kickstand to start the bike, or else soon you won't have a functioning kickstand anymore. I am 5 ft 5 inches tall, and I only have a problem starting the bike when it is cold. I would never use the kickstand. Instead, use natural features of the land, like ruts or logs or rocks to gain the foothold you need. Second, you will need to make sure that you have the OEM Mikuni, and if so, it is set up properly. You should have an #80 starter jet, 32 to 35 pilot, #4 slide, a JD Racing jet kit with the two needles(I run the low altitude one), a 440 main jet. I use an Iridium spark plug. The intake boot for the reed cage is known to be prone to leaking air, so be sure that it is in good order and you have the joining surfaces and gasket sealed with some high temp RTV. I also use a Guts Racing standard height/soft foam seat. Most of my riding takes place between 3000-5000 ft. elevation.

Thanks for this info!

I went for a ride yesterday, and was able to ride everything within the scope of my current ability, and maybe a few things outside of it. The bike died maybe 4 times in two hours, and doing what you suggested I was able to start the bike everytime. I think a seat may help abit, but I don't think a lower link is needed at all. Thanks!
