  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

510TE Gas Mileage Question

AA Class
My son and I have identical 510TEs. His is an '09, mine is a '08. We took a single track ride that was about 60 miles and both bikes were full. My bike used 1.2 gals to fill, his took 1.54 gals to fill and the bike would not start until he added the gas which suggests that he was out of gas. His fuel warning light does not work and according to the specs both bike should hold 1.9US gals. Any ideas why he gets so much less gas mileage that mine?

The '08 got 50mpg, the '09 got 39mpg, my TE 450 gets 32 mpg consistently. It's all in the amount of fuel that is delivered via the ECU program, how rich it is programmed. I'll bet the '08 spark plug is a lighter color than the '09 spark plug.

Are both bikes uncorked and powered up?

The 08 did have the EGR valve connected, but the emissions canister was removed. I don't know if the previous owner ever did the mapping mod. The 09 had the EGR capped off but did have the emissions canister. I removed the canister and plugged the hole in the cylinder, but I'm unaware if the previous owner had the mod done. Any ideas why the 09 gas light doesn't work?

On my bike, the little sensor broke off and was bouncing around in my tank, it's kinda worthless if you ask me, I use the tripometer as my fuel level indicator..

So I guess your fuel light doesn't work either. Is the fuel pump easy to remove? Seems strange that there would be all these electric devices (spark possibility) inside a fuel tank.
