    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

had a stripped nut on the oilfilter in the barrel and finally got mr Mc Hanic to get it out. there was a few little bits of brass on it... and some steel fragments. any suggestions?
Mr McHanic panicked and said big end cage...I hope he is wrong... bike is running fine and starts good, doesn't seem to be making much noise.... I suspect the cam chain tensioner.

im not that stressed, its running nice but I guess some things happening somewhere? brass could be the small end I suppose or the clutch bushing? I might strip it in summer time for a good look.

hate to suggest a full teardown...probably a good idea at least in the off season. worrisome i know. dont these have the two piece valves that come apart? i know some swapped to stainless one piece units.
 
A tear down maybe cheaper than running it till it stops.

I know it's riding season and we gots to ride. Been there done that.
 
as mr McHanic said, running smooth and quiet, could spend a heap of time chasing something for nothing.

I don't know how long the filter nut has been stripped and not cleaned, could be from sometime ago.

last oil change the magnet was clean as

I cant think what would be brass in there? this bike has the one piece valve guides

compression is stunning.

it could be a piece of the kicker bush as that can get a rough time when the clutch cover goes back on

I will give it another run and whip the filter out and check it. if something is failing, there will be more crap on the filter and I will start a lookkee see job.

Small amounts of brass looking material in the oil is most likely from the clutch plates and as long as there are no big lumps of metal it's probably just the general swarf from gearbox use. I personally change the gearbox oil in my 510 after every ride, I figure that oil is cheaper than an engine exploding!

as long as you were in 3rd or better, you could ignore the tracks! no emus, a couple of a hoppers only.

I agree with autopilot, change your oil frequently because of the heavily sintered clutch plates. Not changing will cause premature wear.
 
the cable adjuster was way out so I reset it at the clutch and its much better, regular oil changes are the norm for this baby, thx for your comments
