  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

510 Compression Questions?

Husqvarna
Can anyone tell me the compression difference between a TC and a TE or a SMR and SMRR? Are the differences only in the piston and how do you tell the pistons apart?

The TC has a compression ratio of 12.9:1, the TE/SMR will be the same but not sure on the number, and the 530RR was advertised at 13.2:1

TC has a shorter piston; one oil ring. The TE/SMR is taller; 2 oil rings instead of one. The 530RR piston is the same build as the TC; Light, single oil ring, but it is a cool 100mm diameter

...Instead of the 97mm of the 450/510's

What are ya workin on?

I'm putting a new rod & piston in my '07 SM510R. I ordered the TC piston and will install the '08 rod and crankpin which I'm told are better. I use the motorcycle for recreational use.

Whats different about the rod and crankpin? You should feel a little difference in the engine's ability topick up a little quicker I would think, due to the weight loss of the piston. The TC piston should be a little lighter.

When you get the TC piston, Will you get a weight for both the SMR and TC piston? Oh and pics of both Connecting rods/crank pins so we can see what differences there are, If anything visual to the naked eye.

Thanks!

The '08 rods are dimensionally the same. Husky either improved the metallurgy or shot peened the rod to overcome failures experienced in some '07 models. The lighter piston will also translate to greater acceleration due to the reduced cylinder wall friction of 2 piston rings compared to 3.

I'm changing the head gasket from a 1.4mm thick to a 1.0. I'm looking for mid range torque. I also need to change my STM slipper primary spring to a 190 from 170 due to some clutch slip. I run backroad twisties in the SC & NC mountains. What mods have you done to your Husky?

The 250 is stock engine-wise except for an FBF (Wiseco) piston. My 530 has the bore obviously, RR cam, RD designs Ti valve springs and keepers, Akrapovic Titanium exhaust, and hopefully some other goodies sometime soon
