As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.
Thanks for your patience and support!
I have some seal savers new in the package that I won't install until I solve this. I thought of simply trimming away the plastic guard until it doesn't rub but I'm afraid that would leave it too flimsy to function as a guard.I don't have a suggestion, but I just want to complain about it, too. I have the same issue on my 2012 WR125. I like to run seal savers, but the guards tear them up.
Never have had that problem on my 07 TE450. Maybe run a ziptie around the fork leg right there to keep them from rubbing. You wouldn't be able to run a set of Sealsavers with that setup, but just sayin'.
I suppose so. It might cause a small hole to appear in the neoprene when the material compressed, or it might hinder compression of the material. Somebody should try it and let me know how it works!Good thinking! What if you put the ziptie over the top of the seal saver? Wouldn't that keep it from rubbing on the neoprene itself, and keep the wear on the ziptie?
I pulled the guard away from the fork before tightening and still it rubs, especially on the side with the brake hose because the hose torques it when the forks are compressed. I thought of trying a zip tie but wanted to see if there was a better idea out there.... the heat gun idea has potential. Maybe all of the above? That is how I ran the seal savers on my WR250f, and on my TXC when I was using them. I tried the large zip tie above the wear ring for a while, even wore through one. That didn't work as well for me as keeping them pulled forward and pulling them forward as I tighten them down.
Later,
I have noticed the same thing. The brake side is hard to control. A strip of black Gorilla tape cut down to about 1/2 inch and wrapped around the outer slider takes the rubbing, but needs to be changed often.I pulled the guard away from the fork before tightening and still it rubs, especially on the side with the brake hose because the hose torques it when the forks are compressed. All three times I serviced my forks I've rotated my forks in the triples and rotated the wear ring to keep from wearing out the same spot. I'll try to get a pick on in the next day or so.You got a pic of the problem area Doug?
Mine is an 09 WR250. I will look in to the 97 Honda guards. Thanks that's awesome!Doug,
Do you have the newer style 50 zokes? Best thing to do is get a set of 97 honda crf250 fork covers in solid white.
You will also need the brake line clamp and both the bolts. Covers sit further out from fork tube and little bigger.
Also, a year later, the white looks good instead of the black all scratched up first ride. In fact Hall's just asked me where I got them. Gives bike a sharp look!
