  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Does anyone have a base line amount of oil for outside the cartridge 50mm closed cartridge zokes?
Time to do some service but I dumped the oil without measuring (1 tube anyway).
Also, what weight fork oil in the inner and outer?

Thanks
K

5 weight and 110mm but you can adjust height clear out to 130mm if you want a softer initial stroke. You can also go 130mm and add 12cc at a time through the bleeder hole, each 12cc will raise the height 10mm

Just so I’ve got this....you are measuring the oil from the top on the 50mm closed cartridge forks.

yes, I think it shows you how to make the measurement in the owners manual.

For what it's worth, I strongly recommend SKF green fork seals, they noticeably reduce stiction and will outlast other seals by a long way. They are more expensive and sold one at a time so make sure you buy 2. (usually $35 each)

Thanks.
Yes went with skf seals.
Got the service done. Overall they were very easy to do. Outer chamber oil was horrible. Inner was fine but I changed it anyway. I went with 280ml of 5wt oil in the outer.

I'm sorry I misread your first post and thought you had 50mm open chamber Zokes. Going with SKF is a win no matter the forks but my oil level advice was for open chamber.

update:
I used a impact and got the it off.

I'm having trouble getting the compression valve loose??
I made a holder as shown, but they are very tight!!
Any help please.

Thanks
