  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC 501 or 501s, map this out for me

I'm seriously considering upgrading from my 2009 TE610 to a new 501.

Educate me on the mapping possibilities: I understand the s model comes with a emissions specific map, and my local dealer says he can load a "euro" map. Is this the same map that would come stock on a regular FE501?

Or would a straight 501 also need a flash ?

How many different maps are there?
All they all factory developed or is there an aftermarket map source?

I live in utah, so I could just go with a regular 501 and put on a lighting kit to get it registered and plated.

So my choice kinda, I think, boils down to either remapping the 501s or adding blinkers etc to the 501.

Thanks for any input

My dealer had to load the Euro map on my 14 FE501. It did not come with that map from the factory for the USA.

Heard that the 501S can not have the Euro map loaded which I know my friends could not have loaded on their KTM 500 EXC and 500 XCW.

You might want to make sure your dealer is telling you the truth about the 501S.

Update:

Put a deposit on a 501s after dealer assured me he can, and will, do the euro map. I even had him verify with the service dept about whether or not it can be done. They all say no prob.

Picking the bike up first week of Jan, gonna have them do the ecu at delivery. If they can't I'll be waiting until march or April for a straight 501 to come in.

There is a slim chance my job could take me to California in the future, so I slightly prefer a 501s for that reason.

Either way, pretty stoked. Bike looks sweet...gonna be some good riding on it.

A buddy just bought a 500EXC which has the same motor as ours. I'm told (so far) that mapping can't "officially" be changed on the 501S but this website has a means to adjust the TPS for a richer mixture with the obvious benefits. This website is all for the adjustment but ZipTy has some concerns about detonation because the ignition advances with the TPS. For a very modest change I'd be inclined to not be concerned about detonation.

My bike is new and I'm just breaking it in so I'm not doing anything yet but will be desmogging, etc. soon. Take a look at this TPS info and see what you think. The guy has good vids to go with his products. No affiliation...
