• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

5 bolt vs 6 bolt clutches?

Does anyone know when Husqvarna went from a 5 bolt clutch to a 6 bolt clutch in the LC models?
I have been looking through parts catalogs for a part number for my clutch basket and it appears that all the listed clutches from '86-89 in the catalogs are for 5 bolt/spring clutches.
Therefore I am unable to find a reference for the 6 bolt/spring clutch basket.
Did the basket change with the increase in bolt/springs or does it cover both types?
Also, is the 5 bolt clutch considered a small clutch and the 6 bolt a large clutch?
TIA, Tony.

The 1987-1988 clutches are the six spring ones that attach with a nut and fold over washer. The earlier ones, at least 5 or so years earlier have 5 springs and attach with a snap ring. Yes the basket changes as the plates themselves are larger in diameter.

Thanks Fran, I have been looking in the '88 Two Stroke parts list and it lists five clutch springs and bolts in the part quantity column for my model so I assumed it was referring to the small clutch, I can't find a listing for a six spring clutch, the four strokes list a different part number and also five springs/bolts.
I had hoped that the parts list would be definitive, but I guess it could have been updated after the list I have.
Tony.

The four stroke 1988 sheet I have even shows the older snap ring design. I am not sure if I ever had my clutch apart far enough to see what is really there on there. I did see the ratio was the same as what you have in the data. Sorry for the distraction. If you see the bolt on clutch it is the six spring one. Not 125 model or at least I can't say about them. Paper parts books at a dealership marked up with corrections certainly have advantages over microfilm an computer files.
