  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

450 Won't Start

I have a 2010 SM450 and it will not start? It does turn over but will not fire. I checked the timing, tested fuel pump, tested electrical & checked valve clearnace all good. I am stumped and just wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions?

Thanks

You say the fuel pump is priming?

Have you pulled the fuel pump assembly from the tank? The supply hose to the fuel filter and pressure regulator can pop off from the pressure, or you could have a cracked and leaking hose, resulting in no fuel pressure to the injector.

Are you getting good spark to the spark plug?

Yes the bike is getting spark and plugs are new. I pulled the fuel pump out of the tank last night and tested it and it is priming and seems to be in proper working order.

the sm bike has no kick start lever stock.the bike spins over fine correct but does not start up ,right?dan

Spark, gas, air, compression, gotta be 1 of those 4.

Air is almost always a given, at start up, don't need a whole lot of air, in the old days, Choke meant just that, the air supply was blocked to enrichen the mix.

Compression is next on the list for usually being there, barring an unusual occurence, rings broken, valves hung open, ADC malfunctioning.

You said you have spark.

You tested the fuel pump but have you tested/seen fuel being sprayed from the injector?

we seem to get readings around 120 pounds from a healthy motor.we had a bike recently that would turn over great with the estarter but would only start by the kick start lever.turned out replacing the decomp device on ex cam fixed the problem.the sm has no kicker, have you tried to roll it down a hill or given it a real good push start attempt?dan
