I know there have been a few of these posted already, and thanks for that, as I used them to consider how I'd tackle the same effort. Basically, didn't like all the hardware used to mount the license plate but did like having blinkers; after all, I bought a TE for a reason... Here's what I came up with and the rationale behind it:
Pics:
- I've replaced one OEM blinker due to a crash, which was WAY too expensive.
- I broke off the entire license plate holder in a crash, which was much cheaper than a blinker, but still sucked on the trail.
- The addition of an FMF slip on caused the exhaust to blow onto the right blinker and gradually melt it.
- I crash a lot.
- Looks damn good to me - almost factory.
- Much lighter and stronger.
- The blinkers have very flexible stalks and are short enough to sit out of the way of exhaust gas from the FMF.
- The blinker are very inexpensive to replace, if needed.
- Blinkers are incandescent, so no need for LED mods.
- The doggy door flap offers and extremely strong, light, and flexible mount for the license plate.
- Got the same type of doggy door for my two pups. That flap has been getting hammered for over 12 years and hasnt failed, yet.
- All was attached with various bolts and nyla nuts from Lowe's.
- Doggy door flap, medium size, $18 at my local Home Depot
- Blinkers, cheap, small, flexible, almost look OEM.
