  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I know there have been a few of these posted already, and thanks for that, as I used them to consider how I'd tackle the same effort. Basically, didn't like all the hardware used to mount the license plate but did like having blinkers; after all, I bought a TE for a reason... Here's what I came up with and the rationale behind it:
  • I've replaced one OEM blinker due to a crash, which was WAY too expensive.
  • I broke off the entire license plate holder in a crash, which was much cheaper than a blinker, but still sucked on the trail.
  • The addition of an FMF slip on caused the exhaust to blow onto the right blinker and gradually melt it.
  • I crash a lot.
To remedy this I cut down the OEM black plastic license plate holder to my taste, added some small, very flexible aftermarket blinkers, and attached the license plate using a cut-to-size piece from a doggy door replacement flap. Thoughts on the result:
  • Looks damn good to me - almost factory.
  • Much lighter and stronger.
  • The blinkers have very flexible stalks and are short enough to sit out of the way of exhaust gas from the FMF.
  • The blinker are very inexpensive to replace, if needed.
  • Blinkers are incandescent, so no need for LED mods.
  • The doggy door flap offers and extremely strong, light, and flexible mount for the license plate.
  • Got the same type of doggy door for my two pups. That flap has been getting hammered for over 12 years and hasnt failed, yet.
  • All was attached with various bolts and nyla nuts from Lowe's.

Nicely done :-). Glad I could inspire somebody! Just wait until you see the new one I am making, tucks under the tail. But will not be good for you off-road guys. My SMR is pavement only.

Nice . I like hardware stores to get my mod parts too. Sometimes I just walk down the lanes looking at stuff wondering how I can apply it to my husky :)

Are you sure you are not from Texas or the deep south?
Velcro is good stuff ! It's what I used to hold 20,000mah worth of lipo batteries to the floor of my 14.75 hp FE quad drive 42" RC catamaran .. They stay stuck to the floor unless you slap the water at 50+ , 70+ you start breaking $hit. Velcro is overkill lol
