  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Well I was talking with Driven over the past few weeks and got my hands on one of these. Due to exploding my knee last weekend and my high intake of narcotics after my surgery I will not be able to check fit it for a few months. I can not walk for three months. Below are photos just to give everyone a heads up. You should be able to call Driven and purchase one with the shown part number shown.

I just went out and looked at my shifter. They look very similar in shape.

yeah it looks right but I'm still laid up from my knee reconstruction, as soon as I have a buddy over I'll put them to work in the garage and give you the final answer. Driven Makes legit product so I don't have many doubts

Hey what'd you do to your knee? I tore my acl and got the cadaver tendon. The surgery hurt more than the injury by far. Physical rehab is a bitch, but worth it. What part of the country are you in?

I'm in wisconsin, Tibial Plateau fracture, and torn meniscus. I had the joint, and meniscus rebuilt, 10 screws, 120mm plate, and I'm on my road to begin rehab soon. Just got the stitches out yesterday. No weight on it for 12 weeks, so I probably will not be able to ride until ice season here. I don't want to rush it.

Yea don't rush it. I guess because of the fracture and meniscus it requires no weight. I was on PT within a week, IIRC, because the ACL doesn't really have any weight bearing. That and they did the scope surgery. So there were only a few little holes in my knee. YouTube is gonna be your best friend now I guess. Get well soon.

We are also producing shifters for the 449, no eta, but an order was placed. They will be a lot more expensive than $51 because they are billet.

I finally had time to get out and install the shifter. Fits great. The main shifter casting appears almost identical to the stock one except it is anodized which should make it a bit more abrasion and corrosion resistant and depending on the anodize process a bit harder too, so that should help with the stripping out issue. The shifter tip is a bit longer than stock. The red shifter is my stock on on my other bike.

Good looking part mate! Nice.
We have a supplier over here in Aus MCS selling plain cast shifters. The splines are cut all the way across which helps stop stripping. If my replacement lever gets mangled, I'll chase up one of your type ones. :)

Oh, and if the wobble drive socket is s bit dear, you can bend the ring end of an 8mm spanner & it is a perfect fit through the frame. I carry mine in my tool pouch when riding just in case.

Now, if only someone did rear brake levers....

There is a rear brake lever (that was in a fire apparently)?? for the TE 449/511 and a non "fire damaged" ( different seller) shifter for sale on ebay right now. They want 50.00 bucks for the stock shifter alone. I myself run the stock shifter for the Husky on my G450X because its about 3/4 inch longer and I will have to get one of those nice pieces you have shown us for the price. I have a size 12 boot and just would like the shifter to be a little more space away from the footpeg. The Husky's is much better than the BMWs stock shifter length but not as beefy as the BMWs design. The BMWs is a little more stout IMO, just too damn short and has a more gradual curve all the way to the end, No dog leg or sharp kink like the Husky's design.

I have 2 spare perfect BMW shifters and have thought about cutting and welding them together to make what I really want but the natural curve of them doesn't lend itself to doing that well and the welding of it would anneal it also making it soft and able to be easily bent. The Husky levers profile near the folding toe piece being fairly straight would be better if I wanted to extend one, out of two. I'd rather do that then just taking an unknown non matching piece of aluminum alloy and splicing it in to make a shifter longer.

"Tinken" what are you coming up with from ZipTY?? Will it be the same length as stock and the splines index the same with regard to height of the pedal when installed??
