  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

310 R Unrestricted

Hi all,

New here so please take it easy... I have searched google and here, but don't quite understand what to look for to tell if my bike has been unrestricted. I read about the velocity thingo and the holes in that red cup looking thing (hope everyone is laughing at me now).

How can I tell if my bike is unrestricted? It does not feel like it is.. i.e.. it flattens out when I rev it a little high (not sure on what the actual count on the rev is). It feels under powered. My 250cc feels more powerful.. something is not right.

What can I look for? Something that I can see, that is out of place, or still in place

If there is a sensor going into the exhaust (rather than a metal plug) than chances are it is restricted. Power up is
Removal of catalytic converter in midpipe
Removal of stock baffle and replace with higher flow unit
Removal of intake restrictor cage and replace with the proper one
Removal of carbon filter
Removal of lambada probe and replace with plug.
Retune FI settings at a dealer.

May also involve a gearing change to something like 13/50. I guess you have a 2012/2013 model?

Cheers, thanks Dug. How would you rate your 310? Do you have the R?
No I've got the "old style" 2010 motor. But I still rate it as the best all rounder trail/enduro bike I've ever ridden. Power is not a problem. Doesn't make the same amount of torque as the larger motors but with a bit of tuning it is pretty good. Once it gets revving the mid range is very good. But the handling particularly in tighter stuff is soo good.

I could be imagining this... but the bike seemed to have got a boost in power after 50k's. Maybe I have changed the way I am stepping through the gears or something. However it does still seem to "flatten" out some times. Cant put my finger in. Taking it back to the shop on Sat, so they can plug the computer in..

Ahhh.. You've only done 50kms?

It will feel tight and underpowered till broken in. I broke in a te250r on Saturday and it was much better after 50kms.

Also, I did a top speed run on my 310 with 200km on the Odometer and I topped at 112km's. Did the same with 800 on the odo and got 125km's. These bikes loosen up over time.

Really? I thought that cars and bikes, have moved on from the old "running" in days. I was wondering what top end would be. On a separate topic how many km's do you get out of your tank?

Not sure how many kms to a tank... I've never payed attention to it.

FYI on top speed, I've got 13/50 gearing.

Trail riding with 14/50 gearing I get about 90km if I run it dry. I agree it does take a while to break in. Not just the motor but the suspension and the brakes too.
FYI top speed on my 310 is about 140km/h. Discussed this on another thread but the xlite motors top speed is a little less than the "old" motors.

So one would assume the 310R would be quicker off the mark but I wonder about top end. How do I know what my gearing is set at?

Just count the teeth on the front and rear sprockets.

Easier said then done! I've tried counting and it's kind of difficult to keep track - The number of teeth should be half the rear sprocket size, so 50 rear should be 25 teeth or should there be 50?

Sometimes if you are lucky, the rear sprocket size will be carved into the sprocket itself (as far as rear is concerned)

Thats a 13 tooth sprocket below.

Yup, it can be difficult to keep track when counting teeth. I use a paint marker on the first tooth I count for any sprocket that is not marked.

Try counting the rear when it has 45-52.. that and when it is being blocked by chain guard - sometimes you have to neutral the bike and roll it forward to gain better view of some of the teeth then you lose count or track.. yep been there done that, ain't fun! -- front/counter is pretty straight forward..

This is actually pretty frustrating.. I have to now make time to get to the shop and I am not even sure thats going to help. My only thought is that this is a new bike and the shop didnt know to remove everything duggoey mentioned above.

Duggoey, did you remove the stuff yourself? Any photos? I googled your points above, but nothing obvious for a newbie.
