• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2016 Betas get electronic oil injection.

AND "the introduction of the electronic fuel injection system on all 4 stroke models."

I wonder if this is their way to try and get around some emissions testing with the 2 strokes. Testing is done at very low rpms. They could turn the oil pump pretty much off at idle to produce less smoke. Seadoo did that for years.

Very cool! So how many miles (or better, tanks of gas) can one get on these bikes before needing to refill with oil? For those of us that do timekeeper enduros where gas stops are somewhat remote and far apart, the only issue w/oil injection I can initially think of is potentially needing to carry extra oil (or having it stashed w/your fuel can) if the mileage of the oil storage is limited. For example, if doing a long course enduro and needing a second refuel at mile 60, 70 or 80 will more oil be needed to finish the course? Keeping your fuel premixed obviously avoids this concern. Still, very cool stuff.

same same you still always need fuel, but its easy to carry a small container of oil with no need to think about mixing.......when we do Mex rides this will make fuel stops mindless just hit the gas station/stop and be sure to keep the oil tank topped off. Im sure due to EU (4?) spec its going to be mixing in like around the 60:1 ratio with engineered in variables for higher rpm/ignition/timing etc etc.
Now everyone will be looking at oil maps.....OMG a whole new conundrum for the internet.

Was on the 2015 Cross Trainer this year.
No problems with it.
Am sure some one is going to forget to check the level at sometime, then we'll hear about it.
No fixing Stupid.
Almost scary as to how long it lasts.
Only negative is now raw gas in carb, alge issues like in the 4 times bikes w/carbs.
Later George

Good to see the smaller companies, Beta and Sherco, progressing and offering a great alternative to the mainstream brands.

sorry to say that the oil injection feature will rule me out of owing a beta, at least for the first couple of models til its proven! ECU/wiring/TPS etc i dont like or need. just a basic old school 2T is all i want. couldnt care less about the smoke coming out the silencer(quite like it!), not premixing(again like it) or how much ill save on 2T oil or how much better they reckon itll run at low revs/idle. not my bag but a good advancement from a small company. pierer will be having kittens:D

ps gold forks look cool are they still sachs?

I'm all for the oil injection, and FI for that matter also. Not because I love FI or can use that extra 3% of performance a FI system might be able to produce, but because with emissions standards getting tighter and tighter all the time FI is what is going to keep 2 strokes alive. I'd prefer to keep 2 strokes as cheap, simple and reliable as possible. But I guess I'd rather have an overly complicated 2 stroke than no 2 strokes at all. Lesser of 2 evils I guess.

After having the oil injection gotta say that I like it . Bought a Lectron to put on it but they haven't ironed out the tps yet. After having the Beta for a while I would say their construction is next level . With the supplied optional jetting they run perfect for a Keihin.

I actually like the oil injection idea. There will be a racer kit that will allow it to be removed. I always take my 4T when I am exploring in Northern Ontario because I hate carrying a bottle of oil in my fanny pack.

sweet then im back on board as long as price doesnt sky rocket! was wondering about the carb in regards to getting a lectron on there if the keihin is no good with injection removed(?). im with you Colo moto in regards to keeping 2Ts around just dont want it yet on my bike:thumbsup:

FI 2 smokers here we come. The stuff of legend and secret R&D and one off test beds must be getting closer to wide range production. Imagine having a nice light 50 state legal 2T dual sport!

Guy I work with used to specialize work on two stroke engines that where injected in 70's . He said beware, that stuff clogs super super easy. That was his number one issue. Troubleshooting stuff that gets all clogged up. Also If you forget to top off oil you get to build a new engine. Lol

He predicts teething first couple years. Guess time will tell

The truth is the way most guys trail ride they could get away with Ammsoil Dominator at 100:1 If you're worried that the oil injector might quit working you could put 6oz. to 5 gallons for insurance.
