  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC 2015 FE350S fan runs all the time

OK. I have a 15 FE350S and I cant get over how much the fan runs on this bike. All the emission crap is removed and I have installed an FE350 muffler end cap. I have the AUS map loaded in it and it runs great but the fan is constantly running. It runs so much that my right leg is getting hot from the heat.

The bike never spits coolant but everyone I ride with always comments on how much my fan runs.

Any suggestions?

Our FE250's fan ran a lot until we deleted (hose kit) the thermostat. Did you remove (does Canada have one) the cat in the muffler?

We get the exact same bike as the USA gets. I dont believe there is a catalytic converter in the muffler? The only difference in mufflers is the end cap from the off road to street legal version.

They run pretty hot as standard! With the hot temperatures here the FE501 has the fan on too as soon as I hot a bit of technical stuff.
Changing the coolant to Zypty's stuff helps immensely, I did the same thing here with a local product. heaps better.
Reason why they do this is two fold: 1 Emissions 2 they run a pretty small radiator for the amount of grunt they put out.
If you take the emissions crap off it doesn't change the size of the radiator or the temperature where the thermostat opens.
Start with the coolant, if needed later remove or swap thermostat to lower temp.

I found mine ran hot and put it on a switch. I leave it on pretty much all of the time. Unless the weather is cooler

My 501 fan comes on when the speed is under 30 mph for any sustained time frame. Mine got so hot when I first was breaking it in that the decal peeled off the right side tank shroud. It's much better now with 125 hours on the engine.
