  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC 2015 fe 501s seat vs 2016 fe 501seat?

Throttle on

Husqvarna
A Class
I was at my local dealership recently and noticed the seat on the 16 fe 501 seems softer than my 15 s model. Any feed back? Today I clocked 230 miles on my fe 501s over 50% off road. What an amazing bike. The last 50 miles I stood up or side saddled to relieve my aching checks lol... I ended up 14 miles off course from my planned route and discovered Lightning trail head Kings range road Saddle Ridge Horse mtn somewhere West of Honeydew Ca.

I noticed the same thing. my 15 fe501 has a pretty hard seat and the 16's at the dealer do seem substantially softer. But if you think our seats are hard, go sit on a 16 FC model...

I think I am going to buy one of those 16 fe 501 seats. I am even wondering if the optional tall seat for the same bike uses the same foam. Yesterday I rode a little over 50 miles on my 08 wr 250r Yamaha for the first time since last November. It does not see much of me now with the husky in the garage. I imidietly noticed how nice the seat was. I never thought it was that great until I met my fe 501s. I don't mind a hard seat on an all off road bike. I only ride my KX for maybe 2 hours at the most in a day. I often ride over 150 miles a day on my dual sports. I will report back here as soon as my new seat shows up. It looks like a direct bolt on replacement.

Right!? Lol... Maybe we should take the seats off our bikes and sit on the battery and subframe. After buying my new bike Husqvarna sent me a wordy letter congratulating and complimenting me for buying such a fine machine. I think we as dedicated Husqvarna enthusiasts ought to write return letters and thank them for torturing our rears and ask if they could provide us softer seat options in the future. Husqvarna USA must be aware of this issue. Every bike magazine editor that has ridden one of these bikes has commented on the seats these bikes come with. I understand the concept of having a hard seat on a off-road race bike. It does allow the rider to slide back and forth on the saddle easier than if you we're settled into the foam and have to relieve weight every time you want to scoot forward or back. I also understand a lot of racers spend a lot of time standing not sitting however there's gotta be a happy medium. My memory tells me most non Japanese dirt bikes historically have had hard seats. I remember my 81 CAN AM was a terrible butt punisher. All these European manufactures should take a lesson from Honda! If you have ever sat on an XR you know where they got the Nick name couch.

I did it I bought a 2016 fe seat for my 2015 fe 501s. Yes the foam is substantially softer and the seat cover is not nearly as abrasive. It's still not ultra comfortable
but it is a huge improvement over the original seat.

Hate to ask, but whats the price on an oem seat?

Oh, damn, I didn't know there was a market for the OEM seat :-). I bought the comfort seat from Seat Concepts right off the bat. If anyone needs a brand new, never used OEM '16 501FEs seat, hit me up.

Seat concepts is the way to go. I run that seat on my 500exc unless the ride is going to be pretty technical, then I use a lowered saddle.
