    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

With the end of the Husky DS line for the forseeable future, I have decided to open the blinders to look at the Beta. Doesn't hurt that I have a newly added Beta dealer within 5 minutes of home.

The specs on these bikes are impressive! It even comes with a Voyager GPS for the dash! Seems to have a great starting system and lots of thought towards it's offroad abilities.

I think I'm going to drop by and talk with the dealer and see if they have any or are expecting them soon and check prices. The 520 is looking pretty sweet. I really like the idea of Build Your Own Beta too!

If you do go that way, get different suspension. I wonder who at Marzocchi they pist off, used to be able to get 48mm shivers on them. $9799:eek: whoa, I'll take a Kusky!
 
I like the Sachs just fine. As a matter of fact they work better than the forks that were on my KTM. better than the Marzochis on my wr125 and better than the KYB's on my TC250. You can get the Marzochis through BYOB though.

Pretty sure the price is cheaper than equivalent KTM.
 
The Marzocchi way is an option. This would only happen in the event that when the financial tide is going right for me and there's no more 511s to be found. What really intrigued me was the options you can pick and have them on your bike as delivered. Kinda like buying a Harley. Always good to know what the options are.
 
WOW that BYOB set up is impressive! First time I've checked out the BYOB section and there are lots of cool things you can order for your new Beta.

Be careful on there, it gets expensive quick lol.

I like the look of their bikes but not interested in a carberated 4 stroke. I was on street bikes to long and have become spoiled. I think it's ok on 2 strokes because the technology isn't available yet. Either way, they build some awesome bikes.
 
Yes sir I got to see real quick how fast things add up; I went for blue rims, Rekluse, tires, etc......... It was fun until I hit the check out and seen where they wanted some money :lol:. It is neat though.
 
I rode a 2011 450 a week ago around the parking area where we were riding and it was pretty sweet. You could tell how nice the ride and handling were just by riding it around the lot. Motor was nice too. Easy power delivery. Owner told me it's almost like an XR on the bottom, but when you open it up, it becomes a full on 450. Super easy to ride and made him a better rider. I've heard the same for the 498 as well.
 
Just stopped by my Beta dealer on the way home from work. Was very happy to see a 520 RS sitting on the floor.

First impressions, excellent fit and finish. You can see the mill work on the billet triple clamps. Cockpit is very Husky feeling with familiar perch and switch gear and the Vapor dash is very easy to see. It feels narrower than my 449 and could easily get both feet darn near flat. Feels lighter too. The effort to keep the cg low is obvious. It has this thingy with all sorts of vacuum lines on it that I'm told is called a carb. Way less wiring under the saddle for some reason.

The manager is a believer in the product and just got done with the recent 90 mile H&H in Johnson Valley on the 300 2t scoring the win in B50+. His simple goal is to get people on bikes. The BYOB thing seems till be catching on, he's got two on the way. Takes about a month of lead time and it even comes with a plate with your name on it.

Feels and looks like it was crafted by loving hands.
 
Yes, VERY nice bikes. I agree the fit and finish is very nice. I'm not wild over the busy graphics but thats EZ to change and personal preference. Listed as 6 pounds lighter than the street legal TE511 and about 5 more than the off road TXC 511.
 
IF the FCR carb turned out to be problematic...I bet I know a guy who could find a suitable Lectron...
