  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc 2013 WR300 - Shortening stock muffler?

Neesmo31

A Class
Has anyone done this? You can cut the muffler from the opposite side to the outlet to bring the length of the muffler shorter and a bit more hidden under the plastics.

Will this change the note and or performance of the bike itself? If i can just get away with cutting this it may trump buying a new slip on as i want the stock look.

Thanks all.

Was only looking to trim around 2 inches off it, redrill holes and refit. Just to get the outlet snout in line with the plastics. And maybe a bit for noise... lol

probably will make little difference in sound or power.

but look cooler & thats the main thing! i got a brand new PC plat 2 & 304 silencer you can have cheapish if you want aftermarket or if you want a stock silencer to butcher pay the postage from my way with some xxxx for good measure & you can have mine mate. sitting there doing nothing anyway. i got a shorty Q stealth on mine

I've run stock and shorty mufflers on my bikes and never been able to tell any difference in power. It will absolutely not affect jetting. It may be slightly louder.

To bring to end of the pipe back in line with the plastics. Will look better in my eyes and its free to do. Thats why.

longer silencer equals more leverage on subframe mounts in a crash so more chance of bending/cracking em too(i found this out!)

i cut the stupid little pea shooter tip off on mine too then got a mate to just weld the remaining ring. looks similar to the ktm stock silencer-much better!

Your mounts won't line up. But Uptite I think shortens them for a performance gain. But I believe he does more than just shorten.

if you just chop say 100mm(4") off the end it doesnt affect the mounts whatsoever, chopping from the stinger end will. what more can you do to it other than shorten it(genuine question) wait4me?

I reckon cutting 180mm(I measured mine) off from the welded base area of end cap, then reweld end cap back on would look sweet as neesmo. I might give it a crack when I get a chance! stock shorty. the stocker is a rocket launcher & heavy :)

Yeah mate thats what i reckon. Keep it hidden under the plastics and will discharge lower so you dont get a sooty blinker :)

Or put a droopy on there - i love the look of the old school 2 smoke mufflers.
