  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TE449 suspension setup. New owner

Hey everyone,

Just bought a 2013 TE449. I'm 175lbs without gear on maybe 190lbs with gear? What needs to be done for proper suspension setup or am I good straight off the showroom floor?

Thanks

I have a 13 Te511, I'm about 220 w/gear, I like it the way it is. There is some talk of setting the forks set up similar to a modded WR450 Yamaha, if your bored and picky. I ride the pants off mine and its growing on me more and more, the whole CTS thing is awesome IMHO. It's not a motocross bike by any means but a most capable off road scooter.

The suspension is normally setup for a 150lb rider. I suggest you ride it for awhile to get a good feel of the bike. When we setup these suspension systems, we don't setup by weight as much as we like to set them up to the rider, their abilities and the way they want the suspension to perform.

Agreed. 180# rider plus gear. I found satisfaction in a heavier shock spring and firmer valving in the forks.

Both are easily accomplished for reasonable dollars and with moderate mechanical skills and tools. DIY, IMO.

I'm in the probably gonna need a heavier spring club. Had to dial in almost all of the preload to get proper sag for my 215-220 lbs. However these are excellent systems and was able to get the clickers set well enough to where I can charge whoops pretty good. One of these days I'm gonna show up on Ty's doorstep suspension in hand and a confused look on my face.

I tend to ride more stupid 1st gear stuff with fire roads to connect it. I would love to ride a TE set up for my weight. I tend to buy em and ride em.

Lots-o-preload was my first approach as well. Didn't realize just how lame that was until I got the new spring. Far more plush/controlled now in back. The stock fork springs were good for me, but damping was way too light. Race Tech's Suspension Bible made understanding suspension concepts easy, a spring and Gold Valves were cheap, and You Tube has vids that show how-to each step of the way. You will need a seal driver, vise and 3/8" impact wrench. Pretty easy to do and felt a nice sense of accomplishment when done. YMMV
