  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TE449 questions

So I have a 2012 TE310 now and am considering getting a 2013 TE449. Is the rear shock from my TE310 the same as the TE449? I ask because I have a 6.5 rate spring and am curious if the parts are interchangeable. I am guessing the forks are the same as well? I would most likely put the TE310 up for sale which would be a hard thing to do... Test riding one Saturday. TIA

Not sure but doubt it because the shock on the 449 is shorter due to the linkage and shock being above the swingarm.

- Why are you contemplating this? What are you after?

Just trying to figure out what farkles from my TE310 can be recycled if I go to a 449. It's no biggie on the spring/s. The dealer just called me and said that the 449 I want to test ride isn't running because they had to remove the fuel pump to repair a 511 for a customer. They claim no parts are available in the US to order a new one. I find that hard to believe but maybe?

Tell them you'll buy it as is for $300 off and go get this.

Actually a lot of options for pumps on those.

Dealer just called and said they got a fuel pump. Bike is back together and ready to test ride tomorrow morning. Anything special I need to look for or ask about? Power up kit, reflash etc? Will the G2 ergo dirt tamer from my 2012 te310 fit this bad boy? Handlebar clamps the same? I have the highway dirt bikes lower and upper bar clamp setup.

Test ride is completed. As expected the bike ran very sluggish. It had no power under 4000 rpm and then surged before it took off. It felt like I was dragging an anchor behind me. Bike is bone stock and can't breath is my guess. So please tell me that once it is uncorked this thing has some good power. My 2012 TE310 would smoke this thing all day. It also had no ignition or key. Dealer says that's extra WTF? It needs some work to get it trail ready but I think there is a good bike under there somewhere. So Zipty reflash, de-cat OEM muffler and install a TXC air filter assembly should clear the asthma symtoms right? TIA

Right. Even just the jumper to put it in 'race map 2' mode makes a big difference.
plan on a steering damper and probably a smaller front sproket, and probably the seat concepts seat.

Thanks. The stock seat is slippery as hell! With the bike actually tuned for power I would think the bike would just slip out from under me its that slippery. I have a seat concepts on my 310 with the gripper top, much better. Does the lamda sensor stay in or is that removed when the jumper is installed?

The o2 sensor is 'disabled' so you can remove it if you want to, but you do not have to.

And you're supposed to be standing ;]

And you're supposed to be standing ;]

I was riding on the street since the dealer is in the city. I tried standing a bit but it felt very awkward with the ergos and me being so tall. If I go this route I need a taller seat and lower pegs. Probably taller bars as well. My old knees need some help.

It took me a while to get used to it on the street. Looking eye to eye with people in SUV's was strange for a while.
Its a good bike, it needs a little love to make it right but it doesn't fight you.

I was just on Racetechs website looking to see spring rates for my weight. Looks like my TE310 springs for the forks and shock are the same part numbers for the 449 and are nearly the right spring rates too! That saves me $225. I found a dealer in Saint Louis that has 3 in stock for $5700 OTD. I would need to pay Illinois sales tax when I register it.

I tried a buddies 511 with flexx bars and pivot pegs and it made me feel like I could ride all day. Being taller with a bad back and knee it definately helped.

I am 6'4" and have fastway pegs in low position (1/2 inch lower, and back), the BRP sub mount (1 inch higher) and seat concepts custom 2 inch higher seat. Most comfortable I have ever been on a dirt bike. For standing, I'd say optimal would be another 1/2 inch higher or so on the bars.

As others have said, the stock TE in delivered form is very underwhelming. Zip Ty re-flash and power up plug is a night and day difference (10+ hp).

I'm 6'6" and I did many of the modifications listed above. BRP submount and 116mm flex bars pushed the bars up 2.5" over stock. I lowered the stock pegs down by cutting them. SeatConcepts will make a taller seat for you too.

Chuck the stock pipe for a FMF slip on, add a TC air box filter (or make your own), install Map #3 and hold on tight. Takes the stock TE511 from 36hp to 51hp (must be the TE model).

So 449 or 511 that is the question I am facing now... Only $300 more for the 511. I may kill myself on a 511 though.

Just a FYI here. I searched spring part numbers on Racetechs website and the rear spring for the TE310 has the same part number as the 449/511.
