  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TE 511 Air filter oil

Hello I fairly new to the forum and have just been reading and researching my new bike. The one thing that I have found is that the air filter oil is abundant. When I received it and warmed the bike up while riding it leaked a lot of green air filter oil. It recently has had its first service and I was not happy with what I have found. Riding the bike home and the motor dies while riding and down shifting only. I pulled the bike apart and pulled the air filter and the entire air filter box was soaked in air filter oil and down the Intake tube. Even though the "service" cleaned and re-oiled the filter the air box was still soaked. The bike has the EFI jumper and FMF 4.1 but has never done this before. Will the air filter oil hurt the intake system if enough goes through it?

Very Respectfully,

I have not had the map installed yet. I'm just worried that much oil dumped down the intake will harm something. I am in Yucaipa so a fun ride to where you are so I was going to call you to see if I can swing by one day. Lots of things I want to get from you just have to convince the wife.

Ya I live at the base of the mountain off the 38. I calculated to get there from my house on the trails will take 2 fill ups. definitely will call before I go since it will be a solo ride not to many dual sport guys that I know around here.

Really?? and the search begins lol. I work with the forest service as a COMT so I am all over the mountains and in the San Gabriel mountains. If you need any help with radios let me know I can help.

Many people use Notoil with good results. Have you had map3 installed on your ecu?

I am not usually one to chime on about some name brand over another, but Notoil has really changed the way I do maintenance.

Notoil makes a "pre-oiled" filter for the 449/511 - it is like $16 or something. With the OEM and one extra, I can make sure I have a fresh filter after each adventure. Once you are "on" no toil, I toss them in the washer with a scoop of Oxy Clean and nothing else. I run it on the "short" cycle for 17 minutes and they come out looking like they just rolled off the foam assembly line.

I stick them in a gallon zip lock, toss in about 1/4 cup of Notoil filter oil and pack the air down and store them as-is. Total labor time is about 3-4 mins...add 10-12 to get to the air filter. Cost is VERY low.

The quality of the pre-oiled seems as good as a normal filter. I have a few I have used for 3-4 years and went through 25+ cleanings without issue.

Huskynoobee yes I have keys that open everything from Barstow to the Mexican boarder. Bigmo I am going to my local shop to pick up some no toil. thank you for the advice everyone never had a European bike before so pretty lost on some maintenance things.

I figured I would have a stock pile of oil and air filter oil and filters all around. I will be going up there for the map3 install and get the lic plate holder. What motor oil do you recommend and have had the best success with?

I suggest you order a stainless steel oil filter and change your oil with Mobil1 0W40 every 300 miles. Your first oil change should be at 30 miles, then 100 miles, and continue with 300 mile schedule.
