  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TE 449 Motor oil?

I am what you would call an over thinker in some situations and this would be one of them. The book calls for a castrol GPS 10w40 and luckily I'm in the US and apparently this motor oil is not distributed out this way. I would like to stick to the book starting off with this bike since it is my first that I've bought thats brand new. A lot of the reading has me wanting to stay part synthetic for at least the break in period to make sure everything seats correctly. I would greatly appreciate a little more knowledge on the issue and any feedback on the best runner up product and a great future oil when everything is nice and broken in. Thanks in advance

A cheaper alternative (and more available too) is Rotella Synthetic 5W-40. The three closest Walmarts to me (and I really despise Walmart) do not carry it. I can get Rotella Synthetic and our local farm supply for $19 for the 5 quart jug. It is now my "fleet" oil and I run it in every single thing with a motor. At some point, I should buck up and just buy a drum of the stuff and that will carry me into the grave.

I do have a very reasonable Amsoil rep close by that sells at a huge discount making his products equivalent in pricing to off-the-shelf stuff. That is an option too. I like their oil and HATE the sleezy way they do business.

I love my little farm store. American run, that sells MOSTLY American products - they have what I need a good price. Easy decision for me.
