  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TE 449 Bogging and Hot Start Issues

MKNUT99

Husqvarna
2013 TE 449 (Street Legal) -- So I just bought this sweet machine a couple months ago and was very happy with it up until I decided to take it trail riding. Every time I had it on the road there were no problems, solid performance all around. Then I took it trail riding I had no issues while ripping around for most of the day until it started sputtering and quitting at random times. It seems like the more I stay on the throttle the engine has no issues getting up and roaring but in low rpms it boggs and quits. Then it takes me a couple of tries to get it going again, especially when the engine is hot. Sometimes I need a quick throttle twist while on the starter to get it fired up again.

I have the race map II installed and an FMF power core 4.

I don't have any technical experience with bikes so if anyone out there could help me sort this out, please dumb it down for me! Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Open exhaust map, BMW map 3. Have it installed, about 40 bucks, makes a big difference.
EPA 50 state legal map is lean, causing your problem,

Thanks for the responses guys, it is much appreciated. I'll let you know how everything works once I get the work done!

^ That's a good question. The evap canister is just a slow vacuum leak. Do the Zipty Ecu reflash. Its also a good idea to familiarize yourself with how to do a TPS reset.

I do still have the smog stuff on the bike, and I was reading up how to do a TPS reset, however there were not specific instructions for my bike. I have to level with you guys, my experience with bike maintenance is very little and this thing is confusing the crap out of me. Can anyone walk me through the canister removal and the TPS reset?

Side note, I had ZipTy do my ecu reflash and it seemed to help my issues somewhat. However I was out today in some tight trails with a buddy and once the engine got really hot it sputtered and quit on me with no warning. Took me a few tries to get it started again. Seems like my issues are heat related. Once it gets hot enough it just decides that its not running anymore. Ugh, I am so frustrated and confused. All I want to do is rip around with my buddies and I'm getting very discouraged.

I am having the same issue, but its not my sensor. MKNUT99 in the past I replaced my temp sensor and that fixed everything your talking about. The engine would flame out and not start without twisting the throttle. I would start out with the temp sensor its relatively cheap and its good to have a spare.

The fan does come on when the bike gets hot, I've also checked that the radiator fluid is topped off. So far I've heard a few different solutions which is great, but how should I proceed with the changes? TPS reset, removal of smog assembly, water temp sensor replacement seem like the big 3 ideas. Looks like I'll have to start small with the temp sensor and see where it goes. Again I cant say thanks enough for the help!

The smog canister is basically a controlled vacuum leak. After mine feel off it was much more consistent. I still run the stock exhaust btw.

Sounds like you are on the right track. Might not be the temp sensor but they are cheap and if it does not fix it you have a spare for the future. Do the smog can removal and TPS reset and report back.

Ok so one quick question before the smog stuff disappears. What size cap should I have to replace the union between the hose leading from the canister to below the throttle body? (Number 11 in the diagram) Also where should the hose labeled 3 be rerouted?

It originates from the right side of the fuel tank and leads to number 5. Should I route it to a similar position as the drain lines coming from the bottom of the rear shock?

I filled it with solder instead of a cap ( more dependable and cheaper if you have 60/40 solder and propane tourch , run #3 to the ground threw your shock linkage and zip tie it.

That's a great tip but unfortunately I do not have solder or a propane torch. I'm temporarily relocated for training and all my tools are located back home!
