  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 or 2014 TE310R chain length with sprocket change

New 2014 310 owner. Was reading the threads and see that most are going to 13/50 gearing for tight stuff. I will be doing the same. Is a longer chain required or will stock work with 13/50?

Standard gearing is 14/50, so 13/50 is smaller.
You won't need a longer chain, but you may (particularly if your existing chain is worn) need to take a link out if you are at the far end of the adjustment.

I think stock is actually 13/40. If you want to go 13/50 you will need a longer chain. My dealer extended mine(added 3 links) and installed the 13/50 set up before I bought it. YMMV

My TE310 is completely stock - I counted the sprocket teeth earlier today because I wanted to drop a tooth on the gearbox sprocket too!!

I thought the TXC's had the lower gearing, but having just had a look in my (2014) handbook, the TXC is 13/50 and TE is 13/40, so I am utterly wrong.

Whatever, mine is 14/50 out of the box.

OP - what do you have fitted at the moment??

Mike

Edit: A 13/40 on mine would gear it for over 100mph at 9500 in top. That would be scary!

Thanks for the replies.

I will be going to either 13/50 or 13/52, so it seems I need a longer chain. I can order a new chain with specific number of links so I do not have to use a breaker.

Now that I can assume I need a longer chain, can someone tell me how many links they are running with 13/50 or 13/52. I want to keep rear axle towards the back end of the adjustment range. (Longer wheelbase)

Thanks

100 mph don't think so, I got mine at 82mph on the hwy running a stock 13/40 with knobbies, i wont be doing that again even tho it wasn't to bad. Changing my CS to a 12t and leaving the 40t on, I do a lot of on road riding so i need the speed, But when i hit the trails i'll change out the front.

I have been unable to find a 14 countershaft sprocket and was told by a knowledgeable dealer they didn't exist as the Red Head shaft is different. If anyone has found a 14 please send info on where they can be found.
