  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Husqvarna
I have a 2013 husky te 449 I just bought. It is very hard to shift and wont go into neutral. Seems like goes into second okay but is really hard after that. I am not new to bikes with hydraulic clutches I had many KTMs. I have backblead the clutch for maybe air in system it didn't help. No leaks at slave cylinder or master cylinder and clutch pull feels fine not squishy. I have pulled out the clutch to check around nothing looks wrong. I'm thinking it is the clutch but Husky wants 300 for it and I want to be sure before I go buy one. I've had many of KTMs with this problem and clutch fixed it but I know nothing about Husqvarna. I can use any help possible it is hard to find info on these bikes nobody around me even sells them. I'm in new jersey. thank you ph:856.237.3765

Are problems on hot or cold engine temperature? No clutch drag hard? When you shift 1st with pulled clutch on idle engine stalls?

Gears on a bike are straight cut you can change without clutch!
How old is your engine oil? I know its time to change mine when it gets hard to find neutral not sure why it happens but it does.

Yep, what juicy said. Dump that oil ASAP and get some Mobil 1 0w40 in there. It should shift smoothly without the clutch. Most clutch related stuff on these bikes is drag. How long have you been riding it like that and was it a new left over or purchased used? Quit messing with the clutch and get a handle of what's wrong in that tyranny.

European and American Mobil-1 0W40 are little different. European is composed antifriction additives. Not for wet clutch. I asked a distributor. May be problems with torque limiter too.

Try Shell Rotella T6 5w40. It is rated for wet clutches and will stop clutch drag. It improved my shifting as well.

I've used the Shell Rotella and the mobile one. Mobile 1 0W 40 is far better for shifting in my opinion.

If you need dealer help, contact Bob at Central Jersey Cycles. He is a long time Husky dealer and knows the bikes well. He is located in Eatontown N.J.

Good to hear that opinion, I have run Rotella T in all my bikes except the Husky.... next change I may try the Mobile 0W 40 in the Triumph and see how it feels.

Thank you guys for the responses. I have fresh mobil 1 0W40 in the bike. when it is cold it is almost impossible to shift into second and so on, when it is warm sometimes it will shift perfectly smooth then most of the time its hard to shift checked shifter nothing is hitting . Has only 600 miles on bike. Im definatly thinking it is internal problem

Could be the star wheel has a loose bolt pull cover and clutch out check that the allen screws on tight if not pull it an put loctite on that puppy an crank it upp!

Ive seen this twice now. Both times it was a faulty shifter mechanism. The spring loaded paw that moves the shift drum gets stuck and doesnt ratchet out to the pins. Pull the rh cover and inspect it. Symptom was the shifter moves but doesnt feel connected to anything

There is a measurement you can check for the height of the clutch stack. Based on that, you can fit different shim washers to gain the correct release clearance. I'll try and find the link to the post for you. Also, I run proper motorcycle engine oil, Castrol 5w40 and other than dead cold, it shifts well.

I think Husqracr may be on to something. If it won't shift at all once it's moving there's little the clutch has to do with it at that point. Might as well check the clutch anyway while the cover is off, but it sure sounds like the shift mechanism isn't happy.
