  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013/2014 310 TE vs TXC fork

I'm torn between the 2014 TXC310R and the TE310R. I've ridden the TXC on dirt but not the TE. I'm curious if anyone has ridden both and can provide a comparison between the forks. I'd like the plate but I would also like to be able to use the bike on an mx track a few times a year.

The TE forks are set up more supple, but that doesnt preclude setting them up to suit your riding style and conditions. If you were racing all the time then I recommend the TXC, but wouldnt hesitate to use a TE for occasional race. Most of us need suspension tuned to fit anyway.

I have ridden both and the TE is a good bit softer. Better for slower rough rooty woods stuff. TXC better for MX.

I have a 2013 310 TXC and a 2014 310 TE here, and they both have closed cartridge .

I am not sure when / where the change on the TE took place ???

Yes, you are the second UK guy to say that...but US TEs appear to be open chamber for both 13 and 14...
Now if the original poster would tell us where he is located we might be more use

US does not have txc forks. I have seen a few on the floor now and they don't have closed chambers in the US. Would be cool but not a big deal. You will want to respring your forks either way. I went to a 52 on my te and a 6.5 rear. I am 240 in gear.

I'm pretty sure the TXC 310 I rode a few weeks ago did have the closed chamber forks and the TE I rode the same day did not. Both 2013 or 2014 models. That said the 125's seemed to come with both randomly.

To clarify the 2014 te310's in the US have open chamber forks not txc forks. At least the 3 I have seen and touched so far. Its easy to tell since the closed chambers have gold caps.

If it were me, I'd buy the plated bike. We raced the TE's as the factory team and not the txc's. Your forks will have to be resprung/valved to you anyway. If you are full racing the bike, you will be replacing the forks with aftermarket.

The US TEs we have are CO forks. For most guys the OC forks are good, if you're really fast the CC forks would probably be the best. That also depends on your terrain.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Your input has made me realize I'd be better off going with the TE so I will go that route if I decide to pick up a Husky
