  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2012 TXC 511 vs. 2011 TXC 511

Okay it's time for a new dirt bike and I'm considering a new '11 TXC511 because the local dealer is selling them at a greatly reduced price. My question is what is the difference between the two bikes and is the '12 model that much better?
My last bike was the 2010 TXC 450 and after installing the JD jet kit the bike was awesome!

I have a TE511 with 2200 miles on it and flat love the bike for what it is. I rode a 2011 TXC511 with 2012 suspension and it was fantastic as well. The TE511 with a JD tuner / muffler on it is on par with a TXC. the TXC has far stiffer suspension (better for racing but harsh for trails) where the Te has very soft suspension stock. Works great but is soft. Not huge differences otherwise.

I own an '11 TE 449 and absolutely love the bike. I don't think you can go wrong with the '11 511, especially if it saves you a significant amount of money versus a '12.

I'm super stoked on my '11 TE449. The difference between da 449 and the 511 is mainly where the powerband is. Heck, I haven't even tried the race map yet and I think it rips. Nothin like riding from the house to the trails to get some dirt on when I get the urge! The injection is just fine for me and I really don't think adding any aftermarket stuff like the JD or other stuff is needed unless you really want to race. Gonna need that scratch to buy tires oil, and filters. Only thing I might do is get the Akropovic pipe offered on the TC, but am in no hurry whatsoever.

What I think I've found out so far is the difference between the two models is the '12 has a progressive shock spring and the radiators have a cooling fan. I'm not sure if the '11 model has the cooling fan.

Yes on the fan. I rode the 2012 suspension and did not notice a huge difference.
