  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

    Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 TE511 --> 2011 SMR511 conversion with original rims

So, i have the TE511 2011, but i also have original SMR511 2011 rims that i would like to use, hopefully with the same break discs and calipers.What are the regulations in regard to disc sizes related to rim size? I am aware that smaller rims will increase rotation speed, therefore larger discs are preferred, but are there any rules in regard to minimum disc size? The TE already has pretty descent discs

I find it very strange that so few (if any) have done this conversion as the bikes are very similar. (People often go for Warp9 or other solutions)

As far as i can tell, there aren't much differences between the bikes. The back wheel goes straight on with no problems, the front wheel however, as far as i can tell needs a (small) additional spacer. I've talked to the dealer, they say the spacer parts for both SMR511 and TE511 have the same part number, but the hubs are of different width. This makes me think the break system/caliper on the SMR has some differences in regard to distance from the wheel compaired to the TE511.

Input would be much appreciated

The stock TE rotor is way to small for any serious braking. If just putting around the street you'll be fine. If you expect to do more at least get a larger rotor.
