  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 TE310 - new battery and fuel line mods

DRCA

Husqvarna
A Class
As you might have read in my other threads, I got myself a 2011 TE310 with low miles (800) a couple of weeks ago and after some "technical" problems (some of my own doing unfortunately) I finally was able to go riding today (see my other thread on my first ride report).

Yesterday I did some final wrenching on the bike and I wanted to report on some mods I've made that some people might find useful.

Antigravity SC-1 battery
I replaced the stock lead acid battery with a Antigravity XPS SC-1 unit. That's their best energy density unit and basically the equivalent of an 8 cell unit but with the size and weight of a 4 cell. The price is also fairly reasonable (as compared to other LiFePO units) at $109 on eBay (free shipping, no taxes).
Weight wise it came in at 420 g (just under 1 Lb), the stock unit was 2200 g (4.5 Lbs).
Here are a few photos of the installation (yeah, it's all zip ties, I'll build a proper bracket for it this week).
Fuel pump and fuel filter
I had to replace one of the fuel hose inside the tank (the one between the fuel pump and the fuel filter - the previous owner had replaced it putting a crappy non submersible hose that ended up bursting). As recommended in other threads here I used the Gate fuel injection submersible one. One of the thing I found out is that as this hose is much stiffer than the stock corrugated ones, it's much easier to install the whole assembly back in the tank if the filter is pretty close (1 to 2") to the fuel pump outlet.
Also, the plastic cap that fits around the fuel pump kept popping out when I was reassembling / disassembling the whole thing trying to figure out the right hose length. That got me worried that it would be doing in while riding, so I found a fix (see photo below): I used to small brass screws to hold the clips in place. Won't go anywhere now!

PS: couple of housekeeping questions
  • How does one insert a photo inline with the text? Do you have to upload it to a separate server and post a URL? Or is that part of the feature you get if you become a member?
  • Can't edit a post?
Thanks.

you'll be able to edit any of your posts once you get approved.

inline photos: IIRC, it's "upload a file" button, not the icon of an image button.... if that makes sense.

How does one get approved ? Is that based on the number of posts?

For the inline photos, I had to clean up my browser cache to make it to work.

Happy trails.

Wait. there are only 1 (sometimes 2) moderators hanging around, and they're swamped. they'll notice eventually. It's a drag, I know. I had to do it twice (something happened Oct 2015 and a few of us "lost" our accounts).

good luck.

Ok. I'm cool with that. Hopefully I'll have enough posts soon that one of the moderator will notice me (Hi.... :applause:

Go to home improvement store. In the window and door isle. Get you some adhesive backed foam. I use the camper shell stuff. Stick it on the cross member of your subframe above battery and also on bottom of seat, on the tab that holds battery down. So if your battery ever by chance launches. It won't short or become a welder.
We had some on here where the terminals got close and voltage jumped and shorted.

Sounds like a pretty good suggestions. Will start working on my custom case in the next few days.
