  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 TE250 x-lite oil loss question

Hi Guys,
It would be very cool if you could give me a bit of advice on my bike.
I ride it maybe twice a month. One of those times being a 3 hour enduro race. The other, maybe a practice day or some green lanes...
I'm not very competitive at all so it doesn't really get much of a thrashing.

It seems to use about 100ml of oil every 3 hours. Is that normal? If its not, then what would you think I should be checking to figure out what's up with it?

I never have trouble with e-start when cold, but I do have trouble with the e start during the race.
Sometimes it will fire right back up, sometimes it will struggle to turn the crank and make a noise like the battery is flat. After maybe 5-6 presses it usually fires back up.
The battery is fine I'm sure. I have it on one of those smart chargers when not in use.

I've read the thread on e-start issues but was unsure where my bike fitted in with the other people's problems.

The oil use is the most concerning thing for me. Any help will be much appreciated

Thanks
Jody

Hi,

Starting:
Check the valve clearance, if that is OK and you still have problems, replace worm gear and corona wheel.

Oil consumption:
100 ml consumption every 3 h is NOT normal. How many hours have the bike? Was the piston and/or rings ever replaced?

Cheers

My 2010 tc 250 burned oil like you are experiencing with low hours and dealer put new rings in it which fixed it. Does it smoke a little blue when you rev it in neutral.

My mate said that he has seen a bit of smoke out of it but I've never really stood there and seen it myself.
Ordered a piston kit today and valve stem seals. Hopefully it isn't too hard to change it?

Is it burning the oil or getting sucked through or leaking? I know if you fill it up more then half on eye sight glass - some oil may get sucked through because engines are relatively small.

It's definately not leaking oil on the floor. I'm not sure where it's going to be honest. Out the exhaust i assume. I've read a few posts from people saying they get oil in their filter box which I don't have. I put 900ml of castrol 10w50 when I change the oil. 900ml seems to bring it 3/4's of the way up the sight glass. After a 3 hour race the oil is barely visible in the glass.
The first oil change I did after buying the bike I measured what came out and it was 400ml!! I was very concerned about that which is why I've been monitoring closely how much oil it's using.
