  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 Txc Pick Up Coil?

JRTXC89

Husqvarna
I have a 2010 TXC 250. I need to replace the pick up coil but I dont want to purchase the whole stator. Does any one know what other availalble pick up coils will work? I think I've heard that some of the YZ coils will work? I just pulled it out and im going to measure the mounting holes today. Figured I'd ask first to see if anyone has already sourced a solution.

http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/pulser-coil-needed.88545

many ktm's use the same pickup coil
save the pick-up coil (AKA pulse coil, pulser, crank position sensor, cps, exciter, igniter, ignition trigger, trigger coil, source coil [really, power source for CDI], and couple of more that I forget).
Sometimes called a Kokusan switch, after the name of Kokusan Denki Co., Ltd. a Japanese company that makes them; now owned by Mahle.

You can find them used on ebay... usually with the stator.

Ricky Stator or (unrelated) Ricks Motorsports Electrics (https://ricksmotorsportelectrics.com/) might have 'em.

There is a euro company that sources them (Horse Power Ignition https://www.hpi.be/index.php) (your bike will not be mentioned of course):

JRTXC89- I did not specifically mention it, but the P01 above is the pick up you want.

...and that is not an exhaustive list of bikes that have used it (note that 20 years of RMs use that pickup).

Thank you for the info! I was able to source a new one, and just received it today. Unfortunately it did not fix my issue. It appears I am currently chasing multiple simultaneous electrical issues as I know the pick up coil was bad - multimeter showed about 3 ohms. I was skeptical that this was the sole culprit due to the symptoms, but I had to eliminate it to continue trouble shooting. At this point I am starting to suspect a bad ECU. The problem has evolved/ gotten worse over time, heres a rundown:

Bike was running fine, then started missing and running rough then stalled about 15 minutes into a ride. The bike would not initially restart. Fuel pump would cycle, and sounded normal. Couldn't reliably test spark because I was in the woods. Then after a few minutes it fired right up again and ran normal. 5 minutes later - dies - won't restart. Eventually made it home starting and stalling like this. I covered all the basics to begin trouble shooting. Fresh gas, fresh spark plug, checked valves, compression etc. Diagnosing was tough because I could only reproduce the problem after 15 - 20 minutes of woods riding. Coil tested good, so did the plug wire but replaced anyway as it showed some wear. Spent a few weeks traveling for work and when I went to attempt to trouble shoot again the issue presented it self differently, I would power the bike on, but heard nothing. No relay click, no fuel pump. Nothing. Battery charge was strong, e start would crank the bike fine, but nothing from the power relay. Replaced relay - still nothing. Fuses are good, I have 12V into the relay, but the relay won't trigger. As far as I can tell, the relay is triggered by the ECU, is that correct?

I would guess it's an ignition coil problem or a bad injector (heat related failure maybe? shouldn't get super hot). Also a fuel pump failure (heat related- it's been seen before).

Everything is gonna test good with this kind of failure- except right when it happens.

Where did you get the pickup from? how much? part number etc.... you gotta help the guys 5 years from now that have the same problem.

That was my initial thought when I first experienced the running issue. But my main problem now is I cannot get the relay to trigger anymore. Kill switch is good. If I put 12v to the green/red wire coming from the relay - the pump runs fine. I just can't get the relay to trigger anymore.

Here is the link to the pick up I purchased,
https://www.regulatorrectifier.com/catalog/2008-2010-husqvarna-smr-510-smr510-stator-pickup-coil

price is a little steep at $59.99. But all of the compatible units I found on eBay were around 40-50$ used anyway.
