    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Just searching for any help on a 2010 te510. This bike has been such a headache. I purchased the bike with 900 easy miles on it. It has 1400 miles on it now and I have ALWAYS had some kind of an issue. The bike runs ok sometimes if I see SEL1 on the display. It has been powered up. Typically I only get Fail or sel2/fail on key cycle. I have replaced fuel pump, temp sensor, coil, cap, plug and looked for any loose connections. The bike sometimes will run with a popping on decal. under quick twist of throttle the bike quits. Last night it died and would not start at all. I did see (while riding) the bike display switch from sel2 to immediate fail multiple times. A week before I rode it 80 miles with good power half the time. It has been hooked up to have fail light read and it showed no codes besides o2 and temp sensor. I have already replaced temp sensor and fan kicks on when it should. Any help would be great. Just want to get it running so I can ride without issues.
 
BTW. I did buy the bike from Hall's and it was serviced and the valves were checked. I just ordered a new lamda sensor resistor to try.
 
Replace all the fuses with automotive mini fuse.

Unplug the headlight from the harness.

Put a multimeter on the battery and see that the volts are about 12.8 with bike OFF and >13 volts with a high idle.

Tighten the battery connections.
 
I will let you know the updates. Hopefully lamda plug will fix it. I will let you know so this forum could help others. I have already checked battery/voltage.
 
So installed new lambda resistor and bike immediately said sel1 and no fail. I was pumped. Started, let warm up and revved. No fail light. Put bike back together for a ride. Started down the rode and fail light comes on, then sel2, then again fail. Bike started popping and I barely made it back to my house. When I got home I turned off the key and then back on. Fail agail. I took apart the bike and unplugged new resistor.. I even plugged in o2 and turned key on. No fail light. Plugged in old resistor,, fail light. Plugged in new resistor, sel1, no fail! I looked for broken wires and found nothing. Should this resistor dangle straight down towards the head? I had it tucked up along the frame. Could that cause the problem? I let it dangle and the bike was fine for a ten minute ride.? Just sharing, trying to get insight so I could possibly ride further than easy pushing distance from my house.
 
It should be tucked up and tied to the loom.

That sensor has the critical Green wire with red stripe which connects to the fuel pump, the fuel injector, and the coil. If it was my bike, I'd be going over every exposed piece of Green with red stripe wire that I could see.
 
One fellow from austrailia once had an issue with his resistor and thought the real culprit was too much heat.dont know myself.dan
 
I found that the power up plug resistor for the 02 sensor was susceptible to corrosion from water/mud and failed eventually showing similar symptoms . I can't remember the value and size of the resistor off hand but do remember that it was a common size at any electronics store . When it was replaced it was sealed with sealant and there hasn't been an issue with it since . I think it cost about $1 to fix .
 
Took bike out for about 30 miles and it ran great. I did have one time where the bike flashed fail then sel1 then odo again while riding. Hopefully it may have been heat related. I have looked at that wire so many times I dream about it. Will keep updating as I ride.
 
Remember that a wire can fail internally with no evidence of it on the insulation. Perhaps it has been kinked at some point and its just making a connection most of the time. Like OHR said, trace that wire and see if it shows any sharp bends. Heat will exacerbate a wire failure like that.
