  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 TE450 showing FAIL on the dash

Stirlo

Husqvarna
A Class
Just serviced the bike and now fail is showing on the dash all the time. I don't think it is related to changing the oil and cleaning the air filter. Have had a quick look at the plugs etc and found some stuff about the tilt sensor resister but all looks good. Bike runs fine and seems ok. Does any one know how to check tilt sensor resister, what wires and resistance value??

Not sure about the resistance values for the tilt sensor resistor. IBeat can of course tell you where the fault is, but have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to reset the ECU? Might be that simple...

I agree
and...
Your TE does not have a "TiLt Sensor" there is a resistor plug in its place (SM's have TiLt Sensors)

The fail may likely related to a one of the Plugs such as the PU Plug inplace of the lambda sensor, or the Plug in place of the tilt sensor- It could be a bad connection (unplug clean reconnect). Fuel pump connector, I'd check or replace fuses for s&^$ and GiGGles. Then unplug the battery for a few minutes- if it remains- Ultimately, IBeat connection would be left as the most efficiant means to find the source of the fail.

Have tried all of the checks above but to no avail! Did about 10ks today and it started playing up again. FAIL stayed on the dash all the time but fuel pump stopped on me again. Would come good for a while but stopped 4 times with in 30ks. Thought it might be the tilt sensor plug resister causing the pump to stop, but it has stopped before and it didn't have FAIL on the dash. Then when the pump decides to have a go it sounds like there is a blockage and sounds like it struggles but then comes good and rides fine!!!:banghead: I have dropped it in to the shop to see what they come up with, hopefully they might be kind and still cover it under warranty seeing how its done just over 800ks in 13 months.

G'day Stirlo, I have the same bike that had the same fault, the complete wiring loom was replaced under warranty. (not a problem since) A friend on a '10TE250 also had his loom replaced under warranty when 'FAIL' remained on the display. (neither a problem since) Both mine and friends bike ran fine with 'FAIL' displayed. Don't mess about with anything, take it to the dealer and demand a replacement. I have mentioned this problem in other threads. (The TE449 has an updated wiring loom). The 2010 wiring loom is faulty, they know it and should replace it. I have the ibeat software, although it will probably show no errors as did mine.

Thanks Kreza, I spoke to them about this a while ago when it started and it was about a week out of warranty and got the old 'if its out of warranty its out of warranty' but I don't think 800ks of trail riding is an acceptable service life off any part! If they are going to flood the market with bikes to try and get a bigger share of the pie they wan't to look after these things or they won't sell another lot of bikes!

Hey Stirlo, what was the cause of your FAIL message. I have an 09 TE 450 that is showing FAIL but runs OK although a bit difficult to start when hot.

I get it also, if your bike is powered up (i dont think any are actually sold in Australia in imported restricted trim) you will get a fail, mine is from the header exhaust lambada/exhaust
oxy sensor sensor being removed.

Mine has all the powered up stuff too - the tachometer shows SEL2 FAILED then to SEL1 .. . I always thought SEL2 was powerup mode fuel mapping but guess not..

I had the same issue with my 2010 TE 250, ended up being a dirty connector where the o2 used to be plugged in. Cleaned and replaced and am going good now. Also check for any worn wires under the tank or in/around the air box.

This has only occurred after I put my bike into a bike shop to get them to check for an electrical fault. When the ignition is initially turned on the fuel pump primes then an initial message E41E appears on dash then it cycles to SEL1 then straight to FAIL. The FAIL message now remains on display.
Previously it would cycle from SEL2 to FAIL to SEL1 then to a normal display on the dash, like henson802.

It appears that there is a plug where the o2 sensor would have been in the exhaust.

I have had that E41E message before and it has gone away as I got my bike sorted out. FAIL shows up on mine briefly to indicate that SEL2 is not available on my bike since I don't have the button to switch between the 2 modes, then it goes to SEL1 and all is normal.

A persistent FAIL on the dash will mean that the temp sensor is dead or some other EFI component is dead or shorting out. You will need to check ALL your wiring, especially the Green wire with red stripe, which connects the coil, the fuel pump and the fuel injector. See my thread for pics of wires rubbed bare on my bike.
