  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I love my bike but am having a cronic problem with fork seals. I race hare scrambles in MN and the seals will last only about three races and they start leaking again. My dealer has done all he can and attributes my problem to "tolerances". I'm ready to buy new forks. I'm looking for recommendations and sources.

That is strange.

Are you using a fork bullet on the tubes when you put the seals on?

The 45mm forks are cheap.

I had the same issue with one of my fork seals, had to replace every 2 rides. Last time after taking the forks apart, I emery clothed the lower fork tubes before putting back together.Have not had an issues since. You may have small nicks or dings that you can not see or feel. Give it a try! Cheaper than new forks.

Marzocchi 50mm Dual and single chamber "Shivers"? The are great forks but the seals are hopeless, OEM or not. When you replace the seals next put a heap more tension on the innser spring and tension the dust wiper seal too. You get a little bit more "stiction" but only slightly. My most recent set of seals have lasted 3000km/2 years of trail riding and holding well.

And I priced the 48mm forks that are on the 2010 450/510 (but not the 2010 310 for some reason). Excluding triple clamps I was looking at $1500 AUD ....

These are the 50mm twin chamber Marz. I'm not comfortable replacing the seals myself so I've had the dealer do the work for me. Gets a bit spendy not to mention the time without the bike.

Duggoey has the right idea about re-tensioning the seals. I can explain how if you are interested. seal savers help a bit on some forks. Showa forks on ebay are always a good deal. Cam.

Funny you bring this up now, I rode to my mates house for a ride on the W/E and when I arrived found my left seal leaking badly. Prized the dust wiper down, got out one of my business cards and stuck it in the seal and around the fork tube, no more oil for the rest of the ride. Just the tiniest piece of debris is all it takes to make these things leak. I also had a bit of air in the forks that I hadnt bled out for a while which probably didnt help.

Which side leaks?

I have an extra chrome tube that will fit your bike.

It was the left side. Thanks for the offer for the spare stanchion tube, much appreciated, but I think mine are ok just dirt sitting on the seal surface. As I said Ive got nearly 2 years out of this set of seals so ive done well :)

I cant reccommend enough to keep the wipers clean, bleed the air, but DO NOT touch the actual fork seals unless they are leaking or filming badly.
