  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2008 TE250 running rough...

Peter Z

Husqvarna
I have a recently acquired 2008 TE250 with 154 hours and 3000 miles on it. It has not been Powered up yet.. only the charcoal canister has been removed but the O2 sensor and stock exhaust w/cat are still on the bike... I am wondering what to make of its running condition which isn't great. Haven't taken it on the dirt yet just around the neighborhood..

It starts right up with no smoke and seems to idle pretty decently. When accelerating at part throttle it runs rough, sort of surging-not running smoothly. If you lay on the throttle it pulls strongly and smooths out quite a bit. The feel of the motor is very On/Off.. I understand that 2008 was the first year of Fuel Injection but this can't be right...

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance, Peter Z

Correct. The 2008 bikes were not tuned very well at all, extremely rich (at least after they were powered up). On/off/on/off but not smooth. They are still improving that aspect of the newer bikes as far as I can tell.

There are a couple of options: Dynojet Power Commander with Autotune works well (though dynojet will say the new power commander that works with the auto tune is not compatible with the 2008 bikes, that is because they did not test it).

Or JD Jetting also has a solution, but I've no direct experience with that product. I did test the PC V & auto tune on a 2008 TE310 (or maybe it was a TE250).

Really. They were designed to pass EPA regulations when in restricted mode, not to run properly. Doing the power up will make a huge difference. The JD Tuner is a nice piece of kit but you might not need it once you've derestricted the bike.

Really? They were this bad when they rolled off the showroom floor?

In powered up mode, yes. Not many people were interested in the non-powered up mode so I've no experience with that.

The 2008 TEs & SMs I tested when powered up were about 1/3 too rich. Especially noticeable when deceleration - i.e. closing the throttle when approaching a stop but still at higher rpms (5000?) - they would stall.

Might want to put a wanted ad in the classifieds, many re-sell perfectly working units because they have moved onto newer bikes which are better in that regard. You also may want to check the EFI area because I vaguely recall documenting my experiments (it was a while ago).
