  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

2008 TC510 Lighting Coil?

i found an 08 TC 510, owned by an older gent in very nice condition completely original. Just wondering if these bikes have a lighting coil so I could put a headlight and tail light on it? The bike also hs a clear MC title so I thought about convertin it to a DS. Thanks
 
welp, according to the parts book- the TE/SMRs 250, 450, 510 all have the same stator (8000 A6737), but the TXCs (w/o lights) have 2 different ones, and the TCs also have 2 other different ones. Since the assembly comes with a rotor also, the difference may be in rotor weight. But it could be a timing/trigger difference also.

I am guessing there are 3 different stators for the '08s: TE, TXC, TC. Bet'cha rancher1 could tell you.

If you want a TE stator, it looks like 2008-2010 will work (except '10 250s). You will need a regulator of course (or even a wiring harness). You *might* need a rotor. TXCs need to recharge the battery for the starter so don't rule them out either.

To answer your question: it does not look like the TCs can power lights; but that's a guess.

Thanks very much for the info Trenchcoat. I will have a look at those online parts manuals. Yes a lot has changed, looks great.
 
It’s been years since this has been discussed, but from what I remember, the TC and TXC don’t have that many watts to spare for lights. Since they were carbed bikes without lights, signals, there stators were small. The TE/SMR stators put out 230+watts at 5-6k rpm since they are injected and have a ECM. Many years ago I switched all bulbs over to led to have enough power for larger lights. Just for an example, my stock dual filament tailight drew 23watts. The enduro tailight in the power up kit only draws .5 watts.

No partying here. Just was hanging out with the wife and kids last night.
 
I would say yes it should have enough power to run regular dirt bike lights. It is the same stator they used when the TCs were electric start only so there is some output although I so not know how much. I would say that LEDs would be a great option for the best light output.
