  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2007 te510 camshaft cap question

Husqvarna
Hello everyone,

Long-time lurker, first time posting. I have had my te 510 since 2009 and I love this bike. It is such a fun bike to ride and climb mountains with! I have put about 4500 miles on it, probably 60/40 road (to and from trails in Roosevelt National Forest) and trails respectively.

Anyhow, my friend I were doing some maintenance on it getting ready for another riding season and we took the valve cover off to check the valves and I noticed that there was a crack all the way through in the #3 camshaft cap (see pictures below).

So in my research I found another thread on this forum that explained why I was unable to just order a replacement part (because it's part of the top end and machined together)- and that was a huge bummer! So much for a quick, easy and cheap replacement part :(

Anyhow, I would really like to avoid buying a whole new top end just because of this one cracked piece. Is this even possible or advisable? My friend thought that it may be possible to have a precision weld done on the top and edges of the crack(so as to not to interfere with the groove on the underside that holds the cam bearing in place)- as long as the cap didn't warp in the process. What do you guys think about that possible solution?

What about possibly finding that part somewhere, and having it machined to fit the spec on my engine at a local shop? Is that viable?

If none of these are good options and I do indeed need to replace the entire top end, does anyone know of a good place to order one? I tried halls-cycles.com, but couldn't get the part# to add to the cart.

Thanks in advance.
