    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

2007 TE250 won't start - any suggestions that don't involve killing it or me?

HI Folks,
I wander if anyone can help...?
I've got out my 07 TE250 out after it has been standing for a few weeks (inside dry workshop) and it just doesn't want to start!
I have a strong spark, a fuel wet plug and it even backfires after spinning it over for a bit so it must be getting fuel!
So:
I've put a new spark plug and still not starting
I've stripped and cleaned the carb (found a blocked pilot jet but everything else good) and still not starting
I've checked the valve clearances (a bit loose but not bad) and still not starting
I've checked and cleaned all the wiring and still not starting
I've used every known swear word and still not starting
I've been nice to it and even promised to buy it dinner in a swanky restaurant and still not starting
I'm a bit stumped...
Could it be a sticking valve? in which case wouldn't i have noticed that when checking the valve clearances?!
any advice on getting this (until now perfect) bike going....?

I just purchased a 2007 Te250 so, unfortunately I've got little experience with the bike, but I had a similar situation with my son's RMZ 250 and it was a valve. I picked up an inexpensive compression gauge to check it.
Hey, just curious, what do you do to pull the carb? I've heard you pull the subframe, starter etc?
 
The carb comes out pretty easily on these bikes. Just pop the starter off and the muffler. Then you can pop either the top or bottom subframe bolts, allowing to to tilt the subframe up or down an inch or two; either way doesn't matter. When the subframe tilts, it pulls the airboot back giving you more room. You use a sort of tilt & twist motion and it will pop right out. You can probably also get it out without doing loosening the subframe, but it'll give you a lot of grief.......

Thanks for the tip Ron, I can only guess it's that - althought i've checked the valve clearances i've been told it could still be a sticking valve or (heaven forbid) stretched valves :mad:
In responce to your Q - all i did to get the carb off was take out the subframe bolt and tilt it back a couple of inches and the carb came out as easy as pie :thumbsup:
Jellyrug - the battery's showing a full charge..
cheers guys - when i find out what the problem is i'll post on here... might be a while as i've put the TE aside (to think about it's attitude and buck-up it's ideas) while i sort out my race bike - the WR125 in readiness for winter riding & the start of the South Eastern Enduro season in Feb...
