  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

ok, here is my problem....

I have some slack in my front end...so I just went ahead and ordered bearings and then when I took it apart...the problem is actually that the "ring nut" that tightens everything down dont tighten far enough before bottoming out...I show a washer but I think it is under the bottom bearing....the bearings actually look and feel good...wonder if I should put a washer on top of the top bearing....help...it is about a 1/16th of an inch....

Confused. Is the nut not making the front end tight? As in it stops before it is tight. Should have lots of extra threads below the top triple clamp surface and should not be an issue. You do have the ring nut on there right? Just under the triple clamp.

ya I am running out of threads before it is tight...it is on there correct...I have the top bearing, then the dust cap then the ring nut with the collar side(lip) down....fits in there good just isnt tightening up.....thinking of making a little shim to fit under the ring nut...

Did it fit before? That is weird. All i can think is that the stem is a press fit (it is) and it has moved up. Look at the bottom of your bottom triple clamp to see if it moved up. Never seen this happen but the stem just did not grow. You need to find the cause instead of shimming it IMHO or you will be chasing it. Also if the press fit stem is moving you sure don't want to find out later.
