    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

2 stroke technolgy

As mentioned earlier by DirtDame Direct Injection two-stroke technology works. I've been in boats that have the E-tec motors and they are nothing short of incredible. There is not smoke. They run strong. They are lighter, get better mileage than the four-strokes, and you change the spark plugs every 300 hours. I would love to have a 250-300cc DI two-stroke that could meet Calif emissions. Give it a 3 position fuel/spark map. One for Moto, one for Off-Road, and one for sustained load operation (Street!). The unfortunate reality in this state is that if you don't have a plate your options on where and when (Red sticker) you can ride are limited. Just go to the Big Bear area and notice how many dirt roads (and one unpaved State Hwy) require street registration. I've had several Rangers (BLM and FS) comment on my bike. They like the plate and the fact that it's quiet. I'll stop ranting now.

interesting to note...that ILMOR is two ex cosworth F1 engineers...Mario Illien and Paul Morgan...with Roger Penske involvement

I didnt read the whole post but in my experience in the marine industry (Head gasoline technician and service manager for my companies Newport branch) the stuff is rather heavy. If you like the 2t powerband and cant ride a 4t but dont mind your DI 2t weighing just as much as a 4t then the DI is the way to go if it ever gets released. Look at the E-tec stuff... Bulky injectors high and low pressure fuel pumps (may not need the low pressure pump on a bike though) VST's (also probably wont be needed) another mile or so of wire on the bike plus a bigger computer, and separate oil tank, as well as some other stuff I am forgetting. I would still like to ride one though if it ever comes to the market.
 
I understand KTM is looking to come out with a direct injection 2 banger next year. It will use orbital technology (from Aussie) that Piaggio use. According to gurus this could well be the advent of another 2 banger resurgence because:
The DI gives a much wider power band-kindred to a 4 stroke
The range for a 250 on a 9 litre tank is 200Kms-no BS.
Run as cleanly as a 4 stroke.
This adds up to a good conceot when you take into account their inherent lightness and ease of maintenace.
 
Damnit, I just bought a 2009 WR125. Give my wallet a rest fellas!

Ahhh...just kidding, I love hearing about ways to keep the fun of riding a two stroke and maybe get more than 40 miles to a tank.
 
lets hope Husky get onto this, imagine a wr 300 with a mappable torque. I would have to think about going back to the dark side if these claims come to fruition.
