• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2 rim locks on rear?

I was cleaning my chain and noticed that the rear tire has spun a little and the valve stem is tweaked just a little bit. I'm running 13 pounds in the rear (Stock DOT Michelin knobby on TE510). Do you guys just default to 2 rim locks to prevent this?

thanks

I just have one on my 630; haven't seen the tire spin at all since I put it on.

I believe some people run 2 to make balancing easier.

Yes, can do. I have never needed to but it does work and if you place the other one directly across form the first one you get a better balanced wheel.

I run dual rim locks front & rear. Eliminated out of balance vibration @ highway speeds & piece of mind if there's ever a blowout. Also great for getting back to where ever if you have to ride a flat out of a trail, keeps the tire on. And of course less chance of spinning a tire on the rim & ripping off the valve stem.
Does make mounting a new tire a wee bit more challenging. :censored: :D

P.S. I used the valve stem hole as my second rim lock location as it was directly across the factory one & just drilled a new valve stem hole center of the 2 rim locks.

Are you sure your rimlock was tight enough? I have heard 9ft lbs and that is actually pretty tight when you feel it with a box wrench.

I'm going to check it now. My WR450F had 2 on the rear and never slipped. The PO of this bike did install 4mm tubes so maybe he didn't tighten things down. If I decide to run 2 would it take a 2.15 or 2.75 lock?

thanks

Should not need an additional rim lock from a slippage perspective but are very good for balancing and runniong on flats.

I concur, Odd yours spun if installed properly (maybe its just a freak occurrence)- maybe the previous installer used a weird tire installing slime that did not evaporate and added slip. You can use 2 as stated. I use one rim lock, and I run 8-9 lbs on my rear tire, and 9-10lbs on the front. I have never spun mine and FWIW or a laugh, my knobbies are very worn and the car broke down so I actually used it to go to work, and once I got home, I did an on the pegs- 25ft burnout in my paved driveway- didn't spin on my rim. Time to change tires before I turn into a SM hooligan and show the world my newly obtained skill. I was just doing what Shane Watts (instructional video) told me to do officer- just trying to improve my counter steering skills.
