• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1st and 2nd Gear slipping?

Hey guys, just came back from a 2 week long business trip and when I come back and ride my 630, I notice something wrong. When I am in first, if I gun it there will be a loud clanking and seems to slip. If I do a shiftless shift from first to second, same sound and it's loud. Doesn't sound good at all. Also if I am in second and slip the clutch, same thing happens. This is the first time this has happened and I haven't ridden the bike in 3 weeks. Also just changed oil about 200 miles ago, doesn't know if that could be the problem. Anyways, I have a fully covered warranty so if anything is bad I will be replaced but I want to know if it's the transmission or what. Thanks!

Checked your chain/front sprocket recently? Sounds like you might be skipping a tooth.

If it were the clutch, it would be in all gears.

First thing I'd check is the chain tension and front sprocket too - if you're losing drive in any gear and there's bad noises then it's possible that the front sprocket has been to the dentist, or the chain is really slack. A catastrophic internal transmission failure *usually* results in total no-go, a loss of gearchange or problems in just one gear. Clutch trouble is usually silent and generally makes itself known with a total lack of forward motion, or quiet slippage in higher gears.

If you have a bike stand, or other means to get the rear wheel off the ground then give the rear wheel a spin while eyeballing everything, then put the bike in gear and rock that wheel again. It does sound like a sprocket spinning under the chain though. Here's hoping it's something simple, mate!

Thanks guys! Turned out to be a loose chain. Tightened it up, no noise and hauls ass again! But here's the question: my chain gets loose so fast its not funny. I have 5500 miles on it and I tightened the chain around 10 times buy now. The tension bolts aren't loose and the axle blocks go further and further. I have about 1/8inch gap until they are flush with the swing arm. What gives? Why is it stretching so much? I put some of that chain wax stuff and everything.

Stock chains are cheap and stretch quickly. A high strength o-ring or x-ring chain ($$$) will last a long time and rarely need adjustment. Running the chain too tight can also do that. Cam.

Get rid of that chain before you ride 1 more mile! If it lets go you could have some serious damage!
