  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc 1998 wr250 help

Husqvarna
Hey all, did a search and couldn't find anything, although i can miss things that are right in front of me (trees, hills, etc)
I recently got a 1998 wr250 that was a non runner. after finding that the previous owner didn't do the pickup coil plate bolts up and it was moving around in the flywheel, I got it running, but encountered another problem.
I am not to crash hot with 2 strokes & carbs, but the problem i have is the bike is it starts & after a couple of seconds, chokes on revs, stalls on idle and fouls the plug - all withing 30 seconds to a minute. I am assuming it maybe an issue with the carb, but I am happy to hear other thoughts on this.
what I am hoping to find out is the factory settings for the carb to make sure the needle, jets & air screw is correct. I have a 99 manual, but the 250 carb shown is different (looks more like the one on the 360 in the manual)
thanks, & any help appreciated

Hmmm. Possible a carb problem. Having said that, is the air filter clean & not clogged? The engine might just be struggling for air! Is it blowing excessive smoke? If so what colour is the smoke? White or blue? How is the gearbox oil & coolant level? From memory that model had a Mikuni TM38 or TMX38 & the float height can be a bit finicky on some (not all though curiously).
Do check out the jetting database on here! Lots of very useful info!

thanks for the reply. it has a new aircleaner & i have tried without the aircleaner in as well, and i can see no restrictions at all.
it does smoke a fair bit when running, mostly white
i think it has a tmx38 on it by all the mikuni & husqvarna parts breakdowns i have looked at, but i have not adjusted the float as of yet. i was going to pull the carb down & get everything back to factory settings so i have a confirmed base to work from!!

i did have a look in between work & searching for info, but i havent had the chance to have a good look at it....

also apologies for tagging this post with 125-200, i didnt notice that when i did the post!!

i forgot to add, that after starting, i can get a couple of good blips on the throttle, then after 2-3 it will start to bog down when you crack the throttle, and start to drop idle. bike isnt in gear when this is happening, and if you wait a bit (about the amount of time it takes to change the plug which is now wet) it will start again and the process repeats.

Chris, I have the kick starter you are looking for, for the '98. I left a message on your profile page. Let me know if you are interested. Cheers!
